Hello Fellow PICU Nurses,
I have searched and searched for the best PEDS CCRN review course and I have hit a wall each and every time. I know everyone has a different learning style. There are so many companies with a Peds CCRN online review course and its quite overwhelming as it has not helped me with my decision. As we know it is an expensive exam and I sure don't want to get a *wink and a *good luck program and fail. I plan on taking the exam at the end of July and I have noticed that there aren't that many "in house" review classes out there. Plus, many of them are not being offered in my area or nearby anytime soon. So yes, Im sad! So therefore, to the nurses who have taken the Peds CCRN exam What recourses you feel helped the most. I am the type of learner that I need to know the important things and not the fluff. Too much fluff will distract me and leave me back at square one. I will be purchasing an online program as there aren't any classes available in my area between now and July. I am stuck between AACN's online review and Nurse builders. I have also heard about the Pass CCRN review book but I think that one only applies to adults. I have thought about purchasing the AACN online review with Nurse Builders questions manual. Any suggestions? Which ones Did you feel was much like the actual exam and closer to the content presented? Thank you so much I greatly appreciate it. Id like to start studying ASAP!

That's the way that I would go. Although... when I decided to write the Canadian version of the CCRN exam, I knew I wouldn't find any review groups - I was the only nurse in my province to write the peds critical care certification exam last year. After I reviewed the competencies to be evaluated and their respective weights, I thought about it for a while. My strategy was to write as many practice exams as I could lay hands on. Lucky for me, one of my friends is a clinical educator who had three different CCRN practice exams that she happily let me use. I didn't start prepping until about a month before the exam, then I started practicing. I'd do about half the questions on one test, check my results, make a list of the questions I had wrong and then group them by theme. I'd do some reading (Core Curriculum is excellent for that!) then I'd do the rest of the test. Lather, rinse, repeat. By the time I'd done all three exams, I'd brought my mark up from 50% to 88% and that's when I stopped studying. I passed the real exam, which only took me just a little over half the time allotted. And other than the exam fee, it cost me nothing.

I used the online review course from the AACN themselves. Six two-hour modules. And at the end of each module, there were practice questions and (the best part) an explanation as to WHY each choice was right or wrong. Extensive, printable study guide. I passed on the first try, and so have several of my co-workers using the same review.
Thank you for your responses janfrn and meanmaryjean, I greatly appreciate it!
