pediatric- neurosurgeon wanted!!

Published

hope you can help me!! Please!!!!!!!

Friends of us, need a pediatric neurosurgeon to help their 5 year old son.

He has a deformated cervicalspine. Not just the muscles but the vertebras themselves are not ok.

Untill now, they did conservative therapy with him, but he has grown enormally fast over the last few months, so now the doctors are fearing for his spinal cord!!!

They have been to a lot of doctors here and in Germany, Switzerland, only one of them would try to do something, all the others are afraid, well they fear the risks of operations.

But something has to be done!!

I heard about very good pediatric neurosurgeon in the US, could you please help me on and recomend, websites of hospitals or doctors, so I can give them to my firends?

Thank you so much, take care, Renee

Renee',

We've got some great ones here and I've seen great work by some in other states. Here, we have Dr. Jerry Oakes, whom I adore. He can be reached at chsys.org . We have a couple others too, but I'd recommend Dr. Oakes. Jerry Oakes MD (205)939-6914 Childrens Hosp. of Alabama

1600 7th Ave.; S.; STE 400 Birmingham, AL 35233-1711

The great thing about Dr. Oakes is if it's out of his league, he will not hesitate to send the pt to someone else.

This one used to be here, but is now in Atlanta. He's very impressive too. Timothy Mapstone MD (404)778-3091 The Emory Clinic Inc

1365-B Clifton Rd; NE; STE 6400 Atlanta, GA 30322-1013

There is a woman in Texas, used to be here, I admire her work...despise her, hate her bedside manner.

Dr. Patricia Aronin MD (512) 458-1225 4314 Medical Pkwy.; Suite 201

Austin, TX 78756 .

Good luck! I wish your friend and her son the best!!!

Also, I've seen one on TV, Discovery Health Channel I'm very impressed w/ Dr. Carson, can't remember the 1st name, sorry. I think he's @ Johns Hopkins.

Good Luck!!

Thanks you so much for these adresses, I send them to my friends already!

I saw something about this dr. Ben Carson too, he operated a siamesetwin from Germany a few years ago, he was awsome!!

Again thank you, my friends have to make up their minds now and look at their finances of course! Plus they have a babyboy (healthy!!), who is 10 months!

As for the finances, we ( a bunch of us) decided to help them, should they go to the States, so we'll manage that.

Take care, Renee

I would also recommend Dr. Ben Carson of Johns Hopkins. I have never worked with him in a professional capacity, but I met him when he spoke at my sister's med school graduation, and I was very impressed and inspired by him. If anyone can help this child, I bet he can! Good luck to your friends!

Dr. Ben Carson is THE best Pediatric Neurosurgeon in the United States. He is AMAZING. I had the opportunity to see him a couple of times when my son was hospitalized at Hopkins with a Neuro. roommate. He is not only an enormously talented and respected physician, but he is a wonderfully pleasant man.

Good Luck! :) :) :)

ok, I have wanted to update you all on this one for weeks, but time flies!

Ok, so in the end, it was the beginning of a march, they went to Switzerland with their son and he got a Halo-device.

He had this till 3 weeks ago and the results are amazing!! Of course his neck is not "healed", can't be, but he can look you straight in the eye, with both his eyes!

He has to wear a special-device, made from a kind of, whatever it looks like plastic, during the night and another one (bit smaller and multicoloured) during the day.

He is doing great and doctors hope, that he can live like this for few years, at least till the next growth-period starts.

Thank you again, for your kind suggestions, they were really appreciated. (and looked into too, hubby phoned J. Hopkins for Dr. Carson, but he wasn't there at the time) Renee
