Pediatric Dosage Calculations...HELP!

Published

I'm having such issues with dosing Pediatric patients appropriately. Does anyone have any shortcuts/pointers for the math portion?

Thanks Everyone for the reassurance!! I think that I just need to focus on the calculation and stop focusing on how long it takes me.

Absolutely! Just remember how it was when you first learned how to pass meds as an RN. Don't rush yourself...take your time and you will be fine!!!

I am always impressed with clinicians that ask questions rather than fearing what others think of them. You are very wise and I am sure an excellent clinician. I appreciate the tips as well.

You won't have time to figure that in clinical either. Mainly because you don't know how it is supplied 9 times out of 10 in the pharmacy. So you will be missing a piece of the information.

The physician writes the order like that and the pharmacy figures it up, what you need to double check for is that the original order is what the pharmacy has listed b/c the internal system will calculate the dose and catch any errors.

I never once had to figure that in clinicals.
