I am going to be starting the nursing program next Aug. if not before. I have heard that a PDA is essential. Has anyone else heard that? I don't know the first thing about PDA's or the medical books/reference guides that would bve helpful to have on the PDA.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you do a search you'll find discussion about PDAs, different brands, advantages, etc.

I have seen a recent development in the availability of software for the ipod touch. I think that a medical dictionary was among them. I waiting for the nurse's drug guide to come out as well. I think that the ipod touch or iphone is a better platform than the PDA's.

Agreed. I use the Touch and Palm T/X. In a few months I can finally retire my T/X.

My nursing program requires that we purchase a PDA, and we have a class dedicated to teaching us how to use it. I was planning on buying one but had no idea where to start, so this helped out tremendously! We are using the Palm TX... so far so good.

Does anybody have any insight on how well the iPod Touch works with wifi hotspots? I really really want to get one, but don't want to be frustrated if the internet service is horribly slow.

Thanks!

I have a Palm T/X...the only thing I do not like about it is that the battery runs out very quickly. Otherwise, it's a good PDA.

As far as what to put on it...there's several good freeware/cheap programs that you can start with--I'm sure if you search the PDA forum you can find them. I have Epocrates (free version, I'll get the full one once I'm employed), Tabers (I paid for it, but it's been worth it) and a couple of other ones that I can't remember right now...though to be honest, I get a lot of info for clinical by using the WiFi to get to the web and searching there.

Also, PDA are not necessarily essential to have (unless your program forces you to get/have one, that is). Sure, it helps me out a lot...but my classmates who don't have one do just fine too.

I personally would wait to purchase one until you know what your program wants/require you to have.

Our program is giving us one. Granted we are paying for them through the class fee, but we dont get a choice as to which one to get. They give us the one they want us to have and thats that.

We have wi-fi at the hospital where I work and the touch is spot on. It doesn't stall or anything.
