PDA in the ER

Published

How many of your use PDAs in the ER? How has it been helpful to you?

are the drug guides, etc programs that you load on to the PDA or what? where do you buy them? Thanks!

try skyscape.com

I have yet to find a reason to purchase one. Perhaps you have given me a couple of them. Yet I would find it difficult to justify spending $250+ to have a drug reference that I can open in hard copy while I am retrieving my meds.

Now the calendar thing...but then again, those little free ones from Hallmark have served me well since I was about 12 yrs old.

I'll buy one when I find one priced under $100 that doesn't feel like a boulder in my pocket.

Since when does 6 ounces feel like a boulder? I carry mine in my scrub shirt pocket and barely notice it.

Sure the older models were huge. The Apple Newton was about 3 x as large and heavier than today's Palm models.

Get a Tungsten E. Very light and fits perfectly in the pocket and hand.

I use a Tungsten C. I love IV drip program and the ER/ICU tools- yes I know that I can function and calculate drips without it--but it's nice to have everything at your fingertips- I use to have a pocket ful of cheat cards rubberbanded in my pocket w/ my Broselow tape-- but now it's on my palm--inc my contacts, calender, some photos of my kids, a book and some games (solitaire) which was great when I had to take the kids to the dentist and wait in the WR.

Nice handy tool that does ALOT

I find I am using it more and more. I like my Drug Guide and find it quicker than looking through a book index. I like the program RN Notes-which has some good refererence stuff...maybe more for the nurse practicing less than 5 years. I use the pocket word program to put in notes to myself or little cheat sheets of things pertaining to my unit/hosp. I use the calendar too.

Skyscape has great PDA software-so browse through their site too.

I have an old Tungsten C but I love it. I've even downloaded a bunch of eBooks to read (as well as the nursy-stuff). I use mine for everything. Pictures, books, reference, calendar, memo's, addresses. You name it. If I lost this thing I might as well end it all. It has my so-called life in it! ;

I have a Tungsten E with Tabers, Davis Drug and ER Suite loaded. I use ER Suite and Davis Drug almost daily. I also have the critical care IV drip pocket book from ENA which is wonderful...but not as quick and easy as my PDA!
