Paying for nursing school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello, everyone. I am a student at North Central Texas College, and I am going to apply for the Fall 2006 nursing program in May. I graduated high school in May 2005 and I was fortunate to get through two summer semesters, last semester, and this semester all on scholarships. But, if I get accepted into the nursing program this fall, I have no idea how I am going to pay for school, and loans are a last resort.

I have heard about small towns in Texas that will sponsor nursing students. Is anyone familiar with any of these towns, or where I can go to get information? Or rather, do any of you know of scholarships or grants that will offer assistance to nursing students? If so, I would GREATLY appreciate your help. Thanks!

something was posted about this recently, but i could not remember what forum it was in, the name of the thread and was unable to find it by doing a couple of searches of this site. so, i did a little surfing and found these links. i believe the first one listed is the one that was cited in the post i saw the other day. i have known for sometime about the loan repayment program with the indian health service:

http://bhpr.hrsa.gov/nursing/loanrepay.htm - nursing education loan repayment program of the u.s. department of health and human services

http://www.ihs.gov/jobscareerdevelop/dhps/lrp/lrpsc.asp - indian health service loan repayment program

you want to do a specific search for "nursing loan forgiveness programs" or "nursing loan repayment programs" rather than just a "loan forgiveness program". narrow the search more by specifying texas to see what you get ("texas nursing loan forgiveness programs"). check your state board of nursing and as many of the texas nursing associations as you can locate to see if they have any loan repayment programs or tuition assistance. in general, it is going to be agencies who provide government healthcare services to the very poor and rural areas that are going to offer these programs.

My only resort were loans, and thanfully that did not stop me to pursue nursing.

Good luck to you!
