Hello all. I am planning to go to nursing school this August. I cannot work AND go to nursing school. I want to focus on my studies. What type of loans are available to nursing students?? Is there a such thing as a "cost of living" loan?? I have heard of pharamists, lawyers and doctors getting these. It covers school and living expenses. What type of loans are out there for nursing students??
Much thanks!! Epona!! (nurse to be!!)

Trust me there's more types of loans than you can shake a stick at. I dont know your situation, but if you can swing a part-time job it's worth it to keep the loan balance to a minimum. If you can't I'm betting that there's a loan product out there that'll get you through.
good luck

I would suggest talking to the financial aid person at the school you will be attending. They should have the info and specifics that you need to find a loan that is right for you. I qualified for some grants so that money was deducted and I could use that extra for a "cost of living" loan. It only came out to $4,000 but every little bit helped!!

If anyone could steer you in the right direction it would be them. If you're credit is sketchy to the point that you truely can't get funded anywhere (which is about impossible I know a guy with a bankruptcy that still swung a loan, not a great APR but a loan nontheless) See if you can work out a pay as you go deal, or if they have options such as working for the school to subsidize tuition. Most places will do something like that. Remember, these people get a paycheck based on the school being filled. It's in their best interest to get you in a class.alohaJim

You can also check with some of the hospitals in your area. I know that some of the girls in my class have signed contracts with a local hospital. For every semester the hospital pays for they have to work 6 months for the hospital after graduation. I do not really know any of the specific terms of the agreement other than they sign a contract. It's worth a try. Also, I don't know how your program runs, but, I worked fulltime 5-6 nights a week my first 3 semesters...it was hard....but doable for me at least...now I only work 2 12's on Fri and Sat night at the hospital as a tech. I almost always have time to study while I am at work too. Just something to think about. Good luck!!!! Hope you enjoy nursing school as much as I have. I am done as of August 8th god willing.
thanks :)
my school is farely new with this lpn, and they dont offer any financial asst other than loans,, which i applied thru Sallie Mae and was denied,, i need a cosigner.
im going to do whatever i have to, my school is giving me 9months to pay the bal of $5000, but with a part time job , i'll be lucky to make $555 per month to pay my school, and to top it off they want a payment every 1st of the month.
if anyone has a loan website that i can apply for someone with less than perfect credit please email me @ [email protected]

also check at your bank branch for student oan information. interest can be high on bank loans, but usually theyre pretty good with students. it might not be the best option, but it is one option to consider.
now...i dont know how it works in the states, but when i went to school (i live in canada) i applied to the government student loan program. it was very good.
