For two years of experience, $25 to $26 hourly is a very normal rate of pay in the San Antonio area. Keep in mind that new grads are paid in the $19 to $22 hourly range in that area.

San Antonio has the largest number of nursing programs per capita in the state. The constant flow of new nurses into the local employment market helps to depress wages. In addition, the local hospital systems provide a great deal of uncompensated care due to the patient demographics.

In terms of salary scale, San Antonio is on the low end of the scale. According to the last information I saw, Houston was at the top, followed closely by DFW. It has a lot to do with supply & demand. SA has more nursing schools - thus more graduates - per capita than other metro areas.
