I am trying to figure out how do nurses get away with making almost 34 dollars per hour in ontarion and elsewhere. Their program is only 4 years about the same as other degrees. And the course content is not nearly as tough as other programs whose graduates end up making much less. I have heard recent talk of the ontraio government trying to lower health care costs. No wonder with all those nurses raking in that much money with the taxpayers left paying the tab. It's about time they did something.
Now of course they work hard but who doesn't? and yes they have to wipe old peoples bums and stuff but hey there's lots of jobs that aren't exactly glamourous. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to why they make almost 100,00o dollars.

Try it for a few weeks and tell me what you think. Alot of nurses like myself have dug a ditch or two, worked in an office or two.... so on and so forth. Nursing has quite a bit higher responsibility for the holder of the license. What exactly do you do for a living?

here's another way of looking at it:
If the ditch digger makes a mistake, there's a crooked ditch.
If a plumber makes a mistake, there's a wet floor.
If the office receptionist makes a mistake, a call gets misrouted
If a bank teller is incompetent, the only thing that gets hurt is your bank balance, and that's easily corrected.
But if a nurse makes a mistake, someone could DIE. We get paid more because we are responsible for peoples LIVES.
And with that, I will stop feeding the troll.

I am exposed to life threatening diseases on a daily basis, some that have no cure
I am coding a co-workers husband for hours fighting for his life, while an attention seeking patient who "tried" to commit suicide hours ago called 911 before the meds hit her system and hits the call bell every 5 minutes wanting sympathy from me, while none comes from family... asking for tissues, a cold coke, a blanket, adjust the thermostat... and if I don't make her happy I'm suspended for poor patient care as someone who "WANTED" to die is pulling me away from someone that wants to LIVE!!!!!!!!!
I make so many judgement calls as to how to titrate this med, hold another, decrease all possible harm for my patients and any decision can be wrong, and I am trained to know how to act, when to seek a doc and what to do to prevent harm and optomize care.
I am the one that is responsible to teach those large groups of non compliant patients that waste your tax dollars with frequent admits to the hospital the importance of complying and the negative effects on their health which costs you more $$
I am the one that has to deal with you wanting me to dote head over heals on your post op family member that has to be encouraged to do so for themselves, only to have the likes of you complain about me and my lack of caring, when my sole purpose is to care enough to want your family member progress and go home healthy, only to have you complain about to management and I'm suspended for ticking you off, the fact that I am giving the right care is lost on everyone.
I am the one that has to juggle a crashing patient with your constant need for your self indulgence like personal blankets, pillows, coffee and such while my patients meds are late and those that can't speak for themselves are not turned because YOU have the ability to complain and I get suspended again for telling you it will be "a bit" before I can make your family members room into the Hilton for your pleasure.
My confused patient hit me, spit at me, bite me and then cause me to take medications to protect me from HIV, which kills my liver, makes me wear a condom now for sex for 6-9 months so I don't kill my husband due to an exposure.
Oh, that coughing patient in room 20? Well he popped positive for TB, so now I have 6 months on anivirals and I'm pregnant and can't take them. So my baby may die, or I could.
I"ve have a rotator cuff pull that put me out of work turning a 400lb, non compliant overweight patient and I almost lost my ability to support my family FOREVER.
I have had two knee surgeries from working 4 12 hour shifts for 15 years, rarely ever sitting but constantly lifting and turning and I need a knee replacement, but I'm too young at 40, so I'm in pain EVERY DAY, ALL DAY because of what I do.
I'll stop here... you're simply and idiot and you deserve no more bandwith...
If you make a mistake you can kill someone. I would think yes maybe in some cases but not all. There's talk in Ontario that the health budget has to be reigned it. I say it's about time. Way way overpaid in my opinion. A 34 dollar an hour bum wiper is just way out of line.

appreciate that and i saw that, but i needed my say and i feel so much better now, it was cathartic. so i'm good. horses hind end. now these idiots are stalking us here in our own forums to vent about them. go figure. they need a hobby.
and when you went in to nursing originally you were just seeing the dollar signs I bet. You didn't expect any of this when you went to school for. You must be extremely naive. If you're getting paid 34 dollars of hour of taxpayer money I would expect you to put up with lots of difficulties at work.
Friend, when you get an education, a job, a hobby, move outta mamma's basement and man up already this issue won't be a thing for you. The issue is you, your non compliant neighbor and all those that are wasting your tax dollars due to noncompliance. In addition those that want everything done for a 90 year old with every body system down... "save mamma" is costing you millions and billions in tax dollars. Instead of complaining about my wage, work to change the system. You don't do what I do for 15 years for the money, you lack the pair to deal with what I do and clock in the next day and be whole in your other life.
Man up, be part of the solution, which is not here and put your extensive free time to good use.
LOL. Actually its $40/HR. At least aim higher in life there buddy.
Also consider that this I the WORLD WIDE WEB. We are not all under a government health plan like you Canadian folks. Maybe with some education you will learn that there is more world out there beyond yourself and Ontario.
