Please let me know what your base pay is in your part of the country. I live in TN and where I work our base pay is 13.00/hr. And if you are a CVICU nurse, do you get paid more for what you can do. thanks

The quote I got for a new RN is $14.00. It sounds as if I need to move to California.

$14.00? That won't even buy $13.00 :chuckle ...:stone

Yes, but those are CANADIAN dollars. Currently the exchange rate is 72%, so you are making 24 X .72 = $17.28/hr USA dollars.

Plus in Canada income taxes and sales taxesare much higher. So, it actually much less then $17. No wander they are desperate for nurses.

Man, I cant believe how low the pay is across the US. I'm so thankful for my job! I better get back to school or start my own business because if I ever lose my job I wont be able to afford going back to a measly 20-25/hour. I average about 40-45/hour doing acute dialysis(paid per treatment and on call)

Oh and I live in TN which has a moderate cost of living

Vortex, is this a part-time rate? You said you get paid per treatment. So, how much hours per week you work? It sounds like a great pay. Actualy, I never heard dialysis nurses paid that much. I live in North East and this area considered one of the highest after CA and NYC.

This is such a fascinating thread! I've been reading it for years - literally! Pay in Central Calif continues to be pretty good (along with the weather!) about $36/hr min 2/yr experience, but housing prices are ridiculous :uhoh3: . Here's a link to a local realtor

Recent article in the paper says median house price is 550K (ouch!) and median income is 52K (those numbers don't crunch, but nonetheless are REAL!!!). I love living here, but remain clueless about how I can afford to buy a bathroom :rotfl: on my income.

I have to say how much I admire those professionals starting out at $14/hr, let alone those who have been working for years and years and the hospitals pay you only $20/hr. I do hope that real estate is affordable in your area and you are able to own a home.

Its a full time job with full benefits. I'm considered a salaried employee but I dont receive a set salary except my on-call pay which is $1344/month. I get that money whether I work or not(just for carrying pager) When I work I get paid per treatment which averages anywhere from a low of $30/hour to a high of $50+/hour(depending on length of treatment, whether it was aborted etc)

On average, if you include my actual hours worked+oncall pay I get a flat rate of about $42/hour. I'm not guranteed any amount of treatments, they fluctuate based on need. Occasionally, I may go a week or two where I only work a day. However, this is rare and most of the time I'm working 30-55/hours/week. Obviously I dont get any overtime pay and I also have to carry the pager so that is the drawback to making the extra money. However, I'm very happy with the job for now and count my blessings daily.

In Rochester, NY, I was just offered as a recent GN $18.50/hr plus shift diff's and a sign-on bonus of $7,500 (paid over 1-year) with a 2-year commitment.

I live in Memphis, TN ~ RN pay $20.00-22.00/hour with experience

new Grad $19.50 exact quote

What part of TN are you in? Just curious:)

I work in Chattanooga, TN. New grad pay is 16.52, just got a 3% increase this month. Not sure what our hospital tops out at, but I know prn nurses make $25/hr plus diff, no benefits. I think part of what goes into salaries has to do with what the competition is in the area. I know we have at least 8-10 mid sized hospitals within 20 mile radius. Pay scales get evaluated and bumped up every year for each hospital to be able to recruit the new nurses. It kinds sucks though for the old nurses because it seems like hospitals care more about getting new nurses than keeping the older, reliable nurses. I guess they think once they have you you're there for good. I agree with another poster that we should stand as a group and have an equal pay scale for all nurses, taking into account cost of living, etc. We all have a stressful job regardless of where we practice and don't get the recognition or pay we deserve for what we do.

I have to say that is horrible pay.I work in an acute facility here in Louisiana and they pay 18.00 start for LPN's.Also I work for a home health agency that pays LPN's 16+ hr and 19+ prn.
