LA: New nurses: Approx. $13/hr at hospital setting to $16/hr LTC. There are shift diffs and pay for experience involved. Average LTC is $16.50, usually $1.50 to $2.00 diff. This is SW LA, I believe places like Baton Rouge, New Orleans, Shreveport pay a little more. I have also heard TEXAS pays well for LVNs. I know alot of people here drive over the state line to work there.
I live in Fort Worth, Texas (30 miles west of Dallas). I currently earn $23 hourly during the night shift at a small nursing home. Most LTCFs around here pay between $18 and $24 per hour. Hospitals pay between $13 and $16 hourly. Agency nurses earn between $23 and $30 hourly, depending on the assignment.
When you take the cost of living into consideration, the LVN/LPN pay rates are pretty good in my area. The only exception is if you choose to work at a major hospital.
Here in Mississippi, I just started a SNF job at $14 an hour, will get $14.50 in 90 days.
Plus free health insurance, for a stipend of $150 if I don't take it.
Some LTC facilties pay up to $21 an hour here, but I was thinking I got on at a better company, with a smaller nurse/patient ratio. (NOT!)
