Pay difference

Aside from the obvious, i mean you can receive further education as a LVN also such as I.V therapy and so forth

I understand the pay difference...as RNs have more theory and a broader knowledge base. They also go to school 2 years longer than RPNs |(im in Ontario). What I dont understand is why such a large pay difference. In Ontario, there is very little restriction for RPNs and we can do almost anything the RN can do. I see virtually no difference between the 2 roles, except that the RN gets paid $10 more. Its hogwash if you ask me. A minor increase, yes. $10 and up? no!

Thats my point exactly. I do not have a problem with them being paid more, they have done the extra schooling and so forth, so pay them for it but why so much more. Here in california the pay difference varies but from what i am seeing and hearing it is $25 more and up.

I think the pay difference depends on your state and scope of practice for LPNs. I've heard CA has a prety limited scope.

Also, when considering pay scale differneces, expecially based on uncomfirmed or anecdotal evidence, you need to realize there are many factors...are they comparing the pay scale in the same facility? Are they comparing salaries of new grad LPNs to seasoned RNs? What positions are they considering when refering to RNs? Are they counting only RNs with ASN, or are they including the salary of RNs with MSN, who often make more than ASN RNs?

Im just speaking more so in terms of the numerical amount. There are some CNA's and even caregivers making the same amount or even more as a LVN regardless of their experience. The scope for LVN's seems to be rapidly decreasing.
