Hello,

This is my first post. Great forum

I just scheduled for the exam for Nov. wondering if anyone can let me know what the test consist of.

Welcome to the site! I moved your post to the Pre-Nursing Student Forum for more responses. Here is one school's webpage related to the NLN PAX-RN.

http://www.farmingdale.edu/campuspages/HealthSciences/NURSING/nln_testing.html

Specializes in Cardiac.

Get the study guide by McDonald. Take the practice tests, study the areas you miss.

I did it, and not too much. (About a week of studying, probably 12 hours and got a 98th percentile and 148 composite)

And I haven't taken a class in 10 years. First semester of pre-reqs.

Thanks so much.

Hey there...welcome to the board!!!

I took the test several times, so let me start off by saying don't get discouraged if you don't get a good enough grade to get accepted the first time around. Not everyone is that lucky.

Secondly, yes, get the NLN Pre-Entrance Exam Study Guide - 2nd edition is the most recent (search on Google or Ebay). Study that over and over and over!!! Make sure you understand it! And take the tests in the book as well. This will be the closest to the test you'll get.

In my opinion, this will be the only book you'll need. The test will consist of 3 section...Math, Science & Verbal. Verbal & Science have 80 questions (60 of which are counted towards the grading of the test) and Math has 54 questions (40 of which are counted towards the grade).

This last time I took it, I got a 92% (Composite score of 133) and that is good enough for me!!! That should get me into the program. You may not understand composite now, but you will!!!

Best of luck taking the test in November!!! And like I said, just review this book over and over and over!!!! Keep us posted.

Thank you so much for your input. I am a little nervous about the math. I was told that i would be able to take it again if i don't get a good score.I will keep you all posted on on my results.

Wish me luck.

Check with your school to see how that works. I know some schools it is every 6 months, but my school does it a little different. We have 6 month windows. January to June, then we can take it again between July to December.

If you are not so sure about math, the math section in the Study Guide should help you (if you don't have it, definitely get it). One thing that I did was I actually wrote out the information I couldn't ever remember.

One thing I always froze on when test time came around was what to do with fractions!!!! So, my husband always said write something down or say something 7 times and you'll remember it, so I looked at the fraction information and wrote down all the info for each seperate problem like addition/subtraction/multiplication & division (like when to cross multiply and etc...). It helped me and I got like a 97% or something along those lines for that section. Just take whatever you don't understand, make yourself understand it and move on to the next thing!!!! But make sure you look over every part even if you think you know it!!!

Best of luck and yes, keep us posted!!!

I just purchased the book this morning and it looks really hard. I need to really review. I am able to retake the test in April. So if i don't do well i have a second chance. I am really nervous now. I guess i will try my best and see what happens.

Pray for me.
