Hi guys. I just started a patient safety aide position at a local hospital. I'm completely nervous at times. Like I forgot to sign out and I'm freaking out. The reason I'm being this way is because I dont want to be terminated. This job will help me become a nurse there and its paying for nursing school. I'm having trouble lifting up my patient back into bed. I know about the sheet method but its hard to slide my patient when there's no CNA present to help. I have to bother the nurses and I know they don't like it often. One nurse told me I have to learn. His back hurt helping me because I'm weak. I just want to be good at my job and not make mistakes. Does anyone have any tips? Thank you so much.

Ask your manager for training.

Some jobs are a two person job.... You're not supposed to hurt your back (TLR) and your team should be working together. Don't be afraid to ask for help, just as much as you also help other team members when needed. The patients will also be more comfortable when the job is done right :).

There is NO SAFE WAY to lift a non weight bearing adult human without a mechanical lift. If you damage your back, it could finish your nursing career before it begins. It's also dangerous for the patient who may be dropped. Please don't accept responsibility for this until you are properly trained.
Yeah I believe you guys are right. I don't like anyone hurting their back nor do I want to cause pain to my patient. I should ask my manager for training on this. All in all it really should be a team effort. But its difficult when everyone's busy.
