Just what is Patient Care Tech?

I'm currently a CNA1.

I'm going to start my cna 2 class and phlebotomy this fall..

does this make me a patient care tech?

or do I need EKG class too?

And...

Do Patient Care Tech make more money than CNAs?

All the hospitals around me use PCT's that they train in house. PCT's responsibilities can vary from facility, but can typically do direct pt care and all CNA responsibilities as well as, blood sugars, phlebotomy, EKG's, insert foleys. I don't kjnow how facilities are in your area, but I wouldn't pay to take a class, since all of the hospitals in my area will train for free.

I've been picking brains on this forum trying to find out about PCT training myself. PCT's work in hospitals and are trained to do more than a CNA in an LTC facility and they do get paid more to boot. I've also heard (hearsay) that the working environment is a little easier than working in an LTC facility. I would only pay for a PCT course if I could find one that was really affordable. Some of the tech schools out there charge more for their PCT course than you would have to pay to become an RN or a LPN. That's just crazy.

I am a licensed CNA 2 and work in a hospital. I was trained on the job for blood draws and ECG's. My title is still CNA 2 so I believe it depends on where you work.
