Patient Abuse And Our Obligations

Published

I was fired for reporting patient abuse. Black balled in my town, and made to look like the bad guy. College of nurses abandoned me. :banghead:

All of the good nurses are too scared to say anything because they are afraid of losing their jobs. Good nurses need to stand together against the bad, and turn the tables. The patient that was abused is still in the lions den. The College of nurses was not allowed to interview the patient as they said it would be bad for her mental health. When I asked the Investigator from the college of nurses who reviewed the video, he couln't even tell me what was on it. All of the nurses that I accused were not found guilty. They were let off the hook. The College did not do their job. I have no faith left in the College of nurses of Ontario.

You need to speak to an attorney.

Is the College of Nursing the same thing as our state board of nursing? If it is, there are specific steps that must be taken during an investigation of a complaint. I also wonder why you did not refer this matter to the Crown Prosecutor, as several laws have been broken, or they would have been, in NYS and Florida? While I do not doubt some of your story.

So what's happened to you now, bossman?

Wow!!!! In California RNs have to sign special documents that state we will promptly report any suspected elder, child or sexual abuse. What gives?

Bossman,

Are you still out there? I'm a nursing student doing a presentation on (speciifcally Canadian), nurse abuse of patients and whistleblowing issues, and I would love to be able to discuss with you further if you're not sick to death of it, and just wanna forget about it!

Anyway, if you get this and you're interested, please reply.

I was quite distraut just reading this post. How horribly upsetting. I would be heading to an attorney on this......not only for the issues with you being fired and what not but for the horrible abuse the patients of these nurses are suffering. This sounds like the care we read about happening 50 years ago. Those nurses should not only be no longer practicing nursing but should be in jail charged with assult. Have you attempted to contact an attorney. I assume this is a psychiatric ward. Here in the US the Office of Mental Health oversees mental health facilities. Do you have a similar organization? This has to be stopped. I would be on my soap box to anyone who would listen! Hell I would be notifying the media!

After responding I continued to feel very upset and frustrated. I did some research and it's hard to see who your regulating body is for where you live. I did however come across this Psychiatric Patient Advocate Office website for Canada-- did you say you are in Ontario? Check it out. I would give them a call if I were you. Abuse of psychiatric patients is a topic that gets my blood boiling. Its sick and has to stop. See what they can do......what they might be able to help with. You need to blow this facility out of the water!!!! Wish I was closer as I would love to join in this very worthy crusade!!
