Pathophysiology in the Summer??? good, bad and the ugly!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi, I just got accepted into a nursing program for Fall 2010. My advisor advised me to take pathophysiology in the summer so that my load for fall semester would be a little less heavy...I'm wondering if I'm shooting myself in the foot by taking such a difficult course in the summer. What are your thoughts??????????? What do you suggest i do... wait to take it in the fall and enjoy my summer, or take it during the summer?

Take it in the summer! It will be a lot of studying but you get it done and over with quickly. From my experience, as long as you put the time in, people generally do better in the intersession classes than in a regular semester where you have several other classes to worry about. I took Micro over the winter, and I'm taking O-chem this summer. IMO it's much better to get them over with then have to deal with a heavy load during a regular semester, especially if that load is all nursing courses. Good Luck!

Definitely take it over the summer. You will have enough of a load with first semester nursing coursework.

Summer classes are really easy, the teachers dont even want to be there. So they make the class load alot easier then if it was in the fall. And yes it will be much easier in the fall if you do it now.

I don't agree with that. I took physiology over the summer and the class load was no different. We had the exact same powerpoint presentations and material to cover (as her regular semester classes) , but in a very condensed timeframe.

summer for sure. You will still be able to enjoy your summer... a little! : ) I don't know about your school, but I am taking two summer courses this year and I will still have almost a month afterwards before fall.

You will be glad that you did. Nursing classes require a lot more eading and a little bit different way of studying than most prereq's, so it is best to keep your work load down the first semester.

Just like one poster already mentioned in many cases the grades are better in the summer, atleast that is what my A&P prof said about her A&P II class.

Taking pathophysiology over the summer may make pharmacology a little bit easier in the fall. You will already have an understanding of the diseases and it may make memorizing the drugs easier since you will actually know what they are used for.
