Patho going away next semester?

Has anyone heard the latest on Pathophysiology not being required as of Spring 2006? I know they were talking about doing away with it. I got a call from my advisor and she recommended that I don't take the HCR 240 AB because it's not going to be required anymore. I figured that was for the students applying in Spring 2006 but not someone like me that's half way through AA!

She said that the Governing Board had met Monday evening and she said it was 95% sure it was not going to be required (read: offered) next semester. She also said that since I would have had AA, then when I'm in the blocks it would just be repeat material because they're incorporating it into the nursing program.

Deanna,

It sounds like they are going to treat Patho like the CNA. You'll still lean the material, but it will be under a different class name.....It will be interesting to see what happens.....I think it would b great if we reviewed it during the Blocks....

I had heard that it was going to be incorporated into Fall '06 and not a co-req anymore, same with FON. Bummer part is that I figured I'd get in to the spring class so I'm taking both those classes right now. I guess it's all right b/c I'll just learn it that much better, but I keep thinking about all the wasted $$$$ I've spent, first on CNA and now on those two classes. That's pretty much close to $1800 blown, not even counting time away from my family...

Sorry to jump in. If you have already taken classes that will be incorporated into the program in the future then all is not wasted. You will have a edge over the other students who haven't taken them yet. Then you can concentrate on other studies, care plans, etc, because you will already understand the info...

I know and that is what I keep telling myself, that the more knowledge the better. It still doesn't make sense to me that they cut out the requirements the semester before the incorporate them, since it's at least a one semester wait, those people who apply this fall will have to have the CNA classes, but will only get into the fall classes, where no one will need to have had the CNA classes because they're going to do them all over again, YKWIM?

Ahh, but that's how nursing school is. It makes no sense. They always do things backwards. Does ASU have an accelerated BSN program? You already have a BS, right? I'm in Tucson and our Lotto is different. We get assigned to our program and have to wait. I got in the first time, while a friend of mine just got accepted into the August 2008 semester.:crying2: Talk about a bummer, but at least he knows when he will get in. At the UofA their accel program is paid for with a 2 year committment, and it takes 16 months. Anything like that in PHX?

ASU does have an accelerated program. There was just an info session at ASU-East a couple of weeks ago.

As far as Patho goes, the reason I asked is because I'm not sure they're even going to offer the class in the Spring at all. I was all set to take it and now all I have to take is ENG 102.

Hi Deanna,

Patho is listed in the class schedule. There are 7 slots left for Mary's class. You should just sign up for it in case "they" decide to keep it as a coreq...If they don't then just drop it......Why don't you take Mat 142 or the Human Development class? YOu may as well get some of the BSN pre reqs out of the way....Oh yeah, if you can, take Eng 102 over the summer. I has the best instructor and all I had to do was write 2 short papers and then combine them....easy A.....

Mary

Are you sure you will still have to take patho when they take it out as a co-req?

It is encorporated into the skill ctr program I'm in. But someone in my class had already taken it previously, so when we do patho, she leaves. I think all she had to do is get her transcript sent to the school to prove she'd taken it. You might wanna ask if you will be able to do that. You can mention that they already do it at the skills ctr (let people leave early who've had it before) so shouldn't you be able to do it at one of the RN programs?

I have heard that they will do that as well....I'd rather stay for the review though.....

I went ahead and registered (over the phone) for Patho. Figured I'd take your advice and register anyway. There were 4 seats left. I can drop it if they decide that it's not necessary. It's really tempting too to take the ENG 102 over the summer from that guy.

I took ENG102 online, and as long as you have the discipline, plus the essay writing ability, it's a good way to do it. I believe we wrote 5 essays over the entire semester, you can do it on your own time, and don't have to sit in class. (I enjoy English, and it's always been one of my best subjects, but, and no insult intended here, English teachers tend to be boring unless you get really lucky!)
