Come on, help a nurse out. I know there are a lot of calif travelers and there are a lot of jobs. Some of the hospitals paying well some are not. I just want to know where the california hospital that you did enjoy doing the assignment. Of course the real good assignments are the ones you re-sign up for you know. I have been told recently , that i would not want to work at any hospital in San Diego. I was given no specific reason as to why except that they are bad. People, whats BAD. I'm patiently waiting to here from you. And you, and you.Thanks:)

I worked for California Pacific Medical Center In San Francsisco and I loved every minute of it, I havent worked in SD yet but Cali in general is a great place to go...

Not everyone will have good things to say about a travel assignment , so I wouldnt take everything to heart ... I have heard the worst and the best travel places and I have come to the conclusion its what you make out of it. If thats where you want to go, then go.... You have 13 weeks to like it or hate it and well you can survive 13 weeks either way , Its your choice to re-up the contract.... The hospital I was at, paid well but it will depend on your area as well, specialized departments have different pays and so will your recruiter.... I say work the best deal and never take the first offer... You get somewhat an Idea in your head of what you want and and then what is the least you will take and stand firm on it.... Negotiate Negotiate and Negotiate..... 32.00 an hour was a good price for where I was at , plus housing (private) and all benies.....

I worked at San Diego Childrens for 8 months. Nice hospital, nice staff, very reasonable pt. assignments. Pay was not that great, but no problems overall. Regular med/surg or ortho floors are better than the IMU.

I'm an ICU travel nurse currently in the Sacramento area and the pay and housing is great. I'm in an apartment right now with my hubby and two dogs but on my next renewal I am taking the housing stipend and finding a house for us. The stipend is very generous, $1,800.00 a month. I'm making $35.00/hr and my medical/dental is paid for. I have been at the same facility for almost 6 months and they are going to renew my contract a third time. I have been offered a permanent position there. The staff is great and the patient population is interesting. I'm glad for this exprerience and recommend it to others without kids.

Wow! Sounds like a great assignment! Do you mind saying what company you're with? And which hospital? I am planning on travelling/possibly relocating to the Sacramento area in a couple of mos, so this would be helpful info!

Oh, BTW, why do you say you recommend this to people without kids? Does your company not work with families?...

HOme health travel is a little scarey as you have no clue where you are and which areas are bad.

I'm currently on assignment in Glendale, California. All of my gripes with my assignment have more to do with my agency and less to do with my hospital. For the most part, I've been accepted here with open arms. However, I'm working for peanuts, losing over 43% of my check to taxes, and not receiving nearly the benefits I should be. Most of it is because this is my 1st assignment and I was too green to know any better when I picked my agency. Be careful which agency you go with and keep in mind that you are a PROFESSIONAL ASSET to the company. Demand what you want and don't negotiate on the things that are really important to you.
