So it feels weird NOT having new notes to print out after a test!! Im on to the FCCA and CPNE next! Hoping to be done with both by beginning of August. Is this a reasonable timeline to be finished?
Also how bad is the FCCA? What materials do I need? I try not to get ahead of myself so I am new to info on both. Thanks for any info!!
nooooooo I just failed the ls3 test with a D. ugh. I was going to tell you, you are all welcome to stay at my house for your FCCA. Unfortunatelly, I wont be with you guys i guess.....emailing my advisor, per one of mspc, so maybe I will be with you. Albany, utica and the upstate hospitals are 2 hrs from me. Queens is 30 mins.
I am soooooo sad.

Where are you? I am about 30-45 mins from Queens. Although I still have 4 to go, I am beginning to look for study buddy to practice CPNE with. I expect to have my exams done by June and CPNE by September. Let me know if you're interested.
Do they give you a form to fill out with all of the vaccine records dslpninla? I think I am just going to have titers drawn for everything, because I have no idea how to access my childhood records. What is the infection control packet?
There is a form in there to fill out with what dates or titer results on what day dobe with each immunization....confusing sentence!! Lol the infx packet is 19 pgs and tells you about universal precautions like washing hands, when to wear what gear, etc. I had our infx control nurse at work witness it. It didnt say who could or could not witness it so i guess anyone. About records, i called my health unit and the pediatricians office (he now sees my kids). Health unit faxed me a copy. I was missing the 2nd mmr, and no dtap in 10yrs and had chickenpox when i was a child so i got the two shots today. Quicker to just get them since a titer takes like a week or so....
Who did you use for your witness on that asepsis form? I had my boyfriend sign it and I scanned it... I didn't see who it was supposed to be or if it could be anyone?I have all my immunization titers and PPD on file at work so I've got that form all filled out and scanned. I scanned my ACLS provider card too... it was on the list so I hope it's OK, I am renewing BLS on Jun 23rd and I dont wanna have to wait to apply until then. The only thing I haven't done yet is the photos (need to get my hair done, it looks like a jungle and my roots are bad!!) and the background check--still have not decided where I'm testing.... are you planning on putting in for southern region?
I need to do the photos too. The background check i need to do too. Im thinking ill do northern -npac- bc its sooner. Id like to be passed by mid/end july or begin aug. No idea if ill get it then though. Isnt the southern region the longest wait? Thats what i hear at least. I didnt see it say who could witness so i think anyone is ok.
Did we have to send proof of acls and bls? I thought it was cpr only. I have certifications in all three but only saw cpr was required. Did i miss it somewhere??

Oh no the only reason why I am sending my ACLS is because it was on the approved list of proof of CPR cards and my BLS needs to be renewed next month, so I am going to send one instead of the other so I don't have to worry about sending an updated card in July.
I heard the same thing, I am thinking NPAC too. I am going to put my ready date as August 1... maybe we'll get the same testing date!! :-)

Yes I have, I have started reviewing the EC study guide and I also bought Sheri Taylor's study guide (it is great!). I have little lab stations set up too that I have been working, I have my wound down pretty well! Only thing I haven't gotten set up yet is the IV piggy back.. waiting for the supplies to come.
I am going to do Sheri Taylor's online workshop also and purchase the Rob's CPNE. I heard Shari's care planning is the best! I wish I could afford to go to a hands on workshop but I just can't. I am going to just practice, practice and practice some more and go into it being as prepared as I can.... just hope I can keep my nerves under control... usually I am very laid back and I work very well under stress, but just the thought of the CPNE makes me feel anxious--I guess bc there is so much riding on it.

Where are you getting your IV supplies from? I am going to talk to the manager of our pre-op holding and see if she can hang on to any unused tubing, bags/bottles of saline, and I guess we have a simulated IV hand around somewhere too. What are you using for your wound? Can we buy a bundle pack from EC with everything? I am going to bit the bullet and do EC workshop in WI mid-July. I just read that 1 out of 6 passed at that center a weekend or 2 ago, and a few of the students there were already repeaters. Rob's CD is pretty cheap, so maybe I will get that also, but the online prep, careplan prep, all going EC route. It will be a lot closer for me too, none of the other workshops come anywhere near me. It is run mid week though, Tue-Thur and that is a pain.
One of my study buddies is a paramedic so he's got the stuff we need for IVPB from the FD since we don't have it at work (we have all concurrent pumps so no primary/secondary tubing). Some of the other stuff I borrowed from work like IV start/IM/SQ supplies, tubs of gauze, ABD pads, tape, sterile gloves, etc. For the wound I purchased from the CPR supply site that MissingmyErica recommended, it's a compound humerus fx strap on wound, so it's on a rolled up towel right now. Got it for $35 +ship!
I am waiting to see if a cheap injection pad or injection hand pops up on Ebay, but for now I stalk out opportunities at work and for practice I use an orange for IM and a hot dog for SQ and when I start/flush IV's at work I practice pushing the saline flush at different rates (that's the only thing my hospital allows us to push :-P). There is a company that is posting multiple different types of injection pads on Ebay but I would really like to get one that's as close to the one at CPNE as I can. Going to start stalking the EPN too for passers selling their kits.
For assessments I have been really taking my time and trying to do things the CPNE way at work. I have been leaving work SOOOOOO late because I am trying so hard to take my time and do things the EC way and practice perfect assessments on my patients. I am making sure I do my three ID's and everything, and my patients are looking at me like I'm nuts, they're like "you've been my nurse for three nights now, and you don't know my name?" I'm like no I am just making sure! And everyone is wondering why I am looking up their nose if they are on oxygen.... HAHA
EC does sell a kit with everything even the double headed stethoscope and you can order different kits and pick and choose which items you want. Shari Taylor does too but I don't think she includes a wound.
EC had a workshop in Orlando coming up next month, but it's almost $800 and I just can't do it. I have like half of my belongings for sale on Ebay right now to try and pay for the CPNE and a trip to NY. It will work out, God always provides and I am not going to add anymore stress..... going on a much needed vacation next week and then getting right back on when I get back!!! Hopefully the FCCA will be here waiting on me :-)
