Pasadena City College Fall 2014 Application

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello,

I applied at PCC for their fall 2014 generic application and is just curious if anyone who has applied received any acceptance emails yet? Also I was told that if I have not taken the TEAS yet and if accepted to the program I have two weeks to take it. Is it best to take it before knowing if you're in the program or wait until the acceptance email?

Thank you!

I will be speaking at the orientation on the 26th of this month, I'm not sure how much time they're allowing me to speak up there. The best advice I can give is if you know that you are in the program for sure, upon receiving your acceptance letter via email, you are asked to complete a ton paperwork for clinical purposes, DO NOT lag these documents. Most of these need to be processed, its not a one- step thing. You also have to make copies! A lot of alternates failed to do this and lost their original copy because they missed out on this little information due to the fact that alternates dont get to go to orientation. In terms of studying habits, if you were once the type who would cram their reading materials, that needs to change. There is absolutely no way around it, whatever you're asked to read since day 1 are materials that you have to remember 2 years later when you have to take your NCLEX, or even on the 4th semester when theory final is cumulative starting from the things you learned in 1st sem. No, I'm not kidding. The very reason why cramming will not work is because it is not conducive to retaining all the heavy info. Remember, repetition and thorough understanding of the material is the KEY on how to get these somewhat stuck in your brain. It is hard work, but if your heart is in it, then it is less painful, or so I think. PCC RN program really is one of the better SON (School of Nursing) out there. In my opinion, if you got a seat in a RN program whether it be in a CC or University, JUST TAKE THE SPOT, so long as it isn't a private college. There really is a lot more to say, but ill take questions as they come, and will try to answer them the best I can.

Hey! Thanks for all the info! I was an alternate but got a call last Tuesday saying I'm in. I'll be at the orientation on the 26th ? looking forward to speaking with you!

The program is intense, but it is NOT impossible. The only breaks I would take would be going to the gym because that's what helped my anxiety, this may be different for you but I needed to alleviate some stress especially during the front load of first semester. It started to get slightly easier halfway past through 1st semester, although I am not sure if its because I got the hang out of living and breathing nursing school, because the material for sure was NOT easier.

I know... This entire process makes me soooo incredibly nervous. I want to excel in it you know? As I'm sure everyone does... But the things I hear about nursing school scares the heck out of me lol

Congratulations! I wish you all the best in the program.

Thank you so much!

To be honest with you, I wish I didn't come in as nervous as I did when I started first semester because bottom-line is, I was in there no matter what, and the STRESS will just make things worse. So try to find an outlet, for me it's the gym, I don't necessarily know what will help you personally.

Another general info is that 74% is the new D. So you must get atleast 75% in order to pass any of your classes. The first exam in theory which will be "Nursing Fundamentals" for you guys will be the easiest exam. Do good in that first exam! get your points early on! Because the following exams after the first one are going to be asked very differently than any question I had ever faced academically. The first exam is all about Nursing facts, and nursing history, but once you learn about the diseases, it's not very easy to score high on those. I don't want to scare you, but you sort of have to be scared to take this seriously. Just please find a way to not be stressed out or anxious over circumstances you are about to face when you clearly dont know what they are yet. So I suggest for you to focus on those documents, organize them, makes 2 or 3 copies, DO NOT turn in your originals, get a journal, or if you're a google calendar kinda gal, that works too.

Oh wow.. Well then, lol... I got engaged in January and so I'll have to plan the wedding and have no life simultaneously for the program. I do like going to the gym as I am naturally a big time stressor and let anxiety get the best of me. It's okay though... I just have to try to NOT let my nerves get the best of me. Thank you for all your advice, appreciate it!

if you feel confident and think you have studied enough, take it now. I took the teas way before I was told I got in the program. Aren't they already going through the selecting process? They should have sent those who are considered for a spot to take the teas before acceptance letters go out, unless you received an email saying you're an alternate then they may ask you to take the TEAS. I never went through the alternate process, so I'm sorry if this info did not help.

Oh no no lol I took the teas wayyyyy before also. Back in October actually ? I'm just worried about starting the program.. I don't know what to expect and I'm not sure how I'll handle things but I'm hoping everything goes smoothly

I think I was trying to reply to the person who started the thread but it keeps sending to you for some reason. Im sorry I am new to this forum and am not quite adept as to how it works. lol

Oh lol ok so whoever you're replying to, if you tap on their name, you'll be given a few options. Select "quote" and it'll copy the entire message that person wrote in which you wish to reply to. Then of course you can add whatever you want to say.

I hope I did this right. This doesn't seem like a very big thread at all, especially in comparison to the previous classes, maybe many of the students who got accepted don't know about the forum. But I will see all of you on the 26th :)
