Help!

I am about to graduate in May with a BSN, and like most people in this area have not had a ton of success finding a job! I worked as a student nurse for the last year at a hospital in Western MA, and recently interviewed for a new graduate RN position. Today, I got a job offer. However, it is a 24 hr part time position. They will train me working full time days, and then my regular position will be two 12-hr nights a week. I get benefits, but of course pay higher premiums.

Is this a good idea? I am worried I will not get enough experience, make enough money to pay off loans, etc. But at the same time, jobs are scarce, and its a job.

Help!

Specializes in MS.

You are lucky u got a job in mass. I had to move to Maine because i could not find any in mass and i graduated in Dec. I will advise u too stay there because a full time slot would probably open for u or someone might call off and u will probably get extra shifts. Right now u do not have any other option. You got the job because u already work there.

It is better to get something even though it is not enough then to have nothing at all.

Congrats on getting a job and on soon to be graduating!! As you can see a lot of people have a hard time finding RN jobs in MA. I would take it, it's 24 hours and who's to say you won't be able to pick up extra hours or that a position with more hours won't open up soon.

Good luck in your search!

I would not hesitate just take the job, I'm sure a full time position will open up soon!

I agree grab the job it will get your foot in the door, make yourself available for OT.

Thanks everyone! I figured it would be helpful to get the opinion of other nurses! I appreciate it, and hope you are right about the full time thing. Thanks again
