New job in mother/baby?
Ok thanks! Good idea. I did about a nine week full time orientation on med/surg. The six week orientation for this job would actually be anywhere from 24hr/week to full time.

New job in mother/baby?
Hello! I just need some input. I graduated school and worked med/surg for close to three years. My husband and I just relocated to Maine and I recently had a job interview for a per diem position on a mother/baby floor - no L/D, just mother/baby. It went well! I was told the patient ratio is 3-4 mother/baby couplets. Just wondering a little about how this would be. And also, the manager offered me a 6-week orientation period to start, and then possibility to extend if necessary. Do you feel this is an adequate amount of time to learn a whole new specialty? I obviously did a rotation in school and a leadership rotation on an LDRP floor, but I guess I'm just wondering if this is enough! I am trying to decide if I want to accept - assuming I get an offer! : ) I appreciate your help!!!

Indiana?
Hey! I am about to graduate from University of Rhode Island with a BSN in May. My boyfriend and I are thinking about relocating (he might go to law school at Valparaiso), and I was wondering what it was like in Northwestern Indiana for nurses! I have been in contact with a woman at Community hospital in Munster...any opinions on the hospital? What is it like to work there? Are there good programs for new graduates? Are there any jobs?? (not looking so good here on the East Coast). Any information about this area/hospital is much appreciated! Thanks everyone!

Part-time?
Thanks everyone! I figured it would be helpful to get the opinion of other nurses! I appreciate it, and hope you are right about the full time thing. Thanks again

Part-time?
Help! I am about to graduate in May with a BSN, and like most people in this area have not had a ton of success finding a job! I worked as a student nurse for the last year at a hospital in Western MA, and recently interviewed for a new graduate RN position. Today, I got a job offer. However, it is a 24 hr part time position. They will train me working full time days, and then my regular position will be two 12-hr nights a week. I get benefits, but of course pay higher premiums. Is this a good idea? I am worried I will not get enough experience, make enough money to pay off loans, etc. But at the same time, jobs are scarce, and its a job. Help!
