U.S.A. Texas

Anyone apply to Parkland for their Feb 2014 residencies/internships? Thought we could use this threat to keep in touch with one another/support one another through the process of hopefully receiving a job through them :)

I applied to SICU and ortho/med-surg. Received an email today for an interview for SICU. Super excited and nervous!

Anyone else out there?

Ah, ok....thanks!

I just stumbled here and see that there hasn't been any updates on people getting hired. I wonder if anyone here got the positions they wanted? I'm moving from New York City to Dallas for the ER residency in about three weeks and wonder if anyone else is doing a move as well?

Hi nursejazzy7,

Congrats! I got into the L&D residency program and will be moving from CA to TX.

I have a question for the nurse residents that need to endorse their non-compact state nurse license to TX license. When did you apply and when did you receive your TX temporary license?

I have a CA license. After I received my official offer letter on Dec 31, I filled out my TX online endorsement application on Jan 2nd. I've been trying to verify the status of my license on the TX BON website everyday even though I know it can take up to 15 business days. Anybody in the same boat?

I'm moving from California to work in the ER. I applied for my temporary on the 6th and have only received a generic letter in the mail stating the next steps for a permanent license.

Hi Aloix14,

Did you use the online or paper application?

I used the online form.

I'm moving from out of state too. Just curious what you all are doing about living arrangements? Have you found somewhere yet? How did you find it?

Specializes in NICU Nurse.

So everyone who received a spot in the residency program at Parkland, what is your background? ADN or BSN, LVN or tech experience? I really want to work at Parkland and am waiting for them to post their next round of residencies. Any interview tips? I am not sure what I did wrong this last time.

I'm ADN working on my BSN. 1 year CNA experience.

I found my apartment online and just signed my lease. It's in Lakewood through power properties. It was tough since I really don't know the area.

Briterz - I'm BSN, no nursing related work experience.

aloix14 - I'm working with Power Properties too. They have a lot of mixed reviews online so I'm not sure about them but that area seems nice from what I can tell. You're right, it's tough when you don't know the area.

TodayIsTheDay - I have just been looking through craigslist and apartment ratings. I am open to commuting up to 20 minutes. The Las Colinas area in Irving look appealing based on ratings and reviews. I hope to sign up for an apartment by next week.

Briterz - I have a BSN and a BS in Biology. I was a flu shot RN for a few months, that's about it. Don't give up! Since you had an interview, that means you did a good job on your resume and cover letter. My strategy for interviewing is to practice as much as possible. I would prepare answers to at least 20 most common interview questions. Then I practiced interviewing whenever I had free time - in the car, in the shower etc. I also practiced with people who can give me constructive criticism. My goal was to practice until I felt comfortable and confident without sounding scripted. Best of luck to you!
