They emailed me but I did have an offer with another hospital so I asked them if they could tell me earlier. That could be why they told me today and not tomorrow.

That is one reason why I didn't accept. It my case (ER) there was a 4 year contract total: one year residency PLUS 3 more years. The managers told me that there was a big turnover rate and that's why there's a contract. To me, it says a lot about what's keeping the employees there and I want to work in a hospital because I love being there not because of a contract.

My friend works in the ER and he absolutely loves it and doesn't see himself leaving it. It's just different for everyone.

If you see yourself living in the Dallas area for 2 years and wouldn't mind staying in Parkland for those 2 years then I would accept it. But it's all up to you and your needs!

4 years???! Woahh that's a bit much! The turnover rate is concerning to me as well.. However, so far it's my only job offer so I'm feeling mixed emotions about it. On one end I'm afraid of signing a contract without truly knowing about the work environment but on the other end I don't want to remain unemployed lol.

Yes, 4 years is too much for me! Have you applied to other residencies/hospitals? In my experience, Parkland was the last to reach out to me about jobs and I was in the same place as you. In Spanish there's a saying that a dog who wants two bones will end up with none so that's why I chose the one who reached out first and I don't regret it!

If this is truly the only offer you feel you'll have then I believe 2 years total isn't so bad. Besides, I hear that having Parkland on your resume opens many doors! You're going to be working with a lot of underserved and underrepresented people with various conditions so you're really gonna have your hands full! I wish you the best of luck in whatever you choose.

I speak Spanish but don't recall ever hearing that! Lol. But it's exactly what almost happened to me! Parkland was my first offer but I was waiting to hear back from another facility that I was interested in. I thought I did extremely well but apparently only got one offer from parkland & I almost ended up with none from taking too long to reply to them. So I should probably just take it and see what happens since they have been the first to reach out to me as well. I've applied to 3 different facilities I believe.

I always figured that I'd stay at my first nursing job for at least 2 years anyway but the fact that they had to include a contract is what threw me off a bit. I was going to do it anyway but don't want to feel tied down either.

It'll be a great learning opportunity for sure. Im probably just worrying too much lol
