Panicking about not being able to find a job!!

Published

Hi nurses!!

I am a new grad and I have heard nothing but bad news about hopes for getting a job. I did precepting and every nurse that my preceptor and I ran into sad there is nothing out there and it is hopeless. I worked as an LPN for a little over a year so I have a little experience but I'm just really nervous!! Is there anywhere that the demand is still high for nurses? Is anyone giving sign on bonuses? I have some student loan debts that I'd like to pay down as quickly as possible.. Please help me! I'm losing sleep over this!!!!

I am willing to relocate to NC, SC, FL, TX, AZ. If I'm leaving OH I at least want it to be warm where I go! LOL

Alot of posts mention going to texas to find jobs. I found a job by talking with someone at a mixer. Another friend got a job by walking on the unit and asking for the ANM. Nursing homes are easier to get into for new grads I hear. Good Luck!

I am in Ohio as well if your willing to move what about florida? I have had several recruiters call me from there. I started in a SNF and got my year in it was hell but now I am happily working in home health and I love it! I now SNF is not the dream job but it will give you a year of experience and you can learn a lot.

I worked in nursing homes with skilled patients before. I'm wondering if that will help me to get my foot in the door. I've been really seriously considering FL , I just wasn't sure if I really wanted to move without being really sure I could get something

I'm in Zanesville OH and there are 2 hospitals here that are affiliated together and that is where the HR person came from and spoke to my class and destroyed our hopes of getting jobs. I have looked other places but I'm really squeamish about applying anywhere because of all the negative feedback that I've heard.

Why would they have someone come to discourage your class from their profession? I just don't get that.

Specializes in CVICU, Obs/Gyn, Derm, NICU.

I am not sure if this is appropriate but there are still a few US facilities recruiting from Australia (even though retrogression has been going on for some time now).

Re the advertising that I've seen - a facility in Hobbs NM and the other is in Orlando.

Perhaps these facilities have jobs for new grads?

I started looking for a job in Sept and found one at the beginning of this month. It's a hospital job, at a really great hospital. They said they weren't hiring a lot of new grads, but I just kept talking with the nurse recruiter and she eventually e-mailed me and offered me an interview! I suggest calling and emailing the recruiters!!! It will pay off if you're persistent with them! Try a place where you had clinical so you can tell them why you really want to work there and maybe try and contact a ANM there! Good luck!

Since you're willing to travel why not travel nursing. U have experience under your belt and maybe u will get to go to all the those states and see which one's you like. BUt I also heard that there were a lot positions in TX.

It took me 6 months to find a job. Had to move across country for it. It is in a cardiologist's office and is really interesting. I feel like I am learning a lot that will transfer well into hospital work, but man am I homesick!!
