So, the hospital here does 2 week paid vacation each year. I was wondering do they roll over or if you dont use them, they disappear?

Check your employee handbook or similar item. You should have received one when you were hired or during your orientation. If you can't locate one, check with HR, this is the only way to know since it varies from one employer to the next.

Policies differ, so you need to check with your HR dept or employee handbook to be sure of what your employer's policy is.
However, I've never yet encountered a facility/agency that did not allow you to accumulate vacation/PTO time off from one year to the next. A lot of employers, though, set a limit on how many total hours of vacation/PTO hours you can accumulate (the max is usually pretty high, like several months' worth) and, beyond that point, you will lose the excess time if you don't use if within a specified time.

What elkpark describes is how things work at my facility. There's a cap - somewhere between 300-400 hours, I think - and beyond that you lose it if you don't use it. But if you haven't reached that cap, your hours roll over year to year.
It does vary from place to place, though - so check with your HR to see.

Asking that here you will get many different responses. Some hospitals use PTO (paid time off) which is used for both sick time and vacation. Others have straight vacation and straight sick time. Best bet check with HR or if your hospital is unionized read your contract.

Same as any other job- nurse or garbage collector- it is up to the employer and you should have been given information (usually in the form of a booklet that nobody -me either- reads until they want the information. :) If you don't want to research just call HR and ask.
