Is it common practice in facilities when a nurse is off for their paid holiday, the scheduler floats the regular scheduled days off to accomodate for the holiday. So instead of getting an extra day off, you get the same number of days, just different days. Nothing is said, but you are suppose to see your schedule that is posted only a few days prior to the holiday.

Sounds like you got screwed. Not suprised. Healthcare facilities take advantage of nurses all of the time.

if i understand you correctly, you are a full-time or regular (not per diem) employee, and they are just putting your regularly-scheduled day off to fall on the holiday, and you get no other time off, then no, it is not a common practice. :nono:

if the facility has a list of holidays they observe (which, alas, may be a short list and not be the same ones on your hallmark gift store list; check that) then those are supposed to be paid holidays. you should either be getting them off or working it anyway (and maybe getting time and a half for it) and getting another day off. a visit with the scheduler is in order.

Yes, am a full time, not per diem, working 40 hours. We get 6 holidays off only. And on New Years, my scheduled holiday off, the scheduler moved my normal day off so I only got the 2 days off, which put me into overtime, giving me time & half for that week. Since I wasn't suppose to be on the schedule, when I didn't show for the shift, my supervisor called, me. I ended up being an hour late.

Your schedule should be coded in such a way that it is clear what day you are receiving your "holiday pay" for and is therefore being counted as hours toward your regular schedule ... and a day that is simply unscheduled -- "off".

Is this a new job?

You might work but you would still be paid.

If I understand you correctly, then yes that is what would happen in my facility.

I do not have a set schedule but let's say I did and worked Mon, Wed, Thurs. If, for example, Thanksgiving was not my holiday, the week of Thanksgiving they would either schedule me for Tuesday or Friday in addition to my Monday/Wednesday to make up my 12 hours from that week that I wouldn't work for not working Thanksgiving. People who work Mon-Fri in my facility do not work these holidays but must use their Earned Time to cover the day.

I have been working for this facility for 4 years, and I was working Monday - Fridays with holidays off. But I recently took a new position where I have a biweekly schedule, every other weekend rotation, with every other holiday off. Thank you everyone for your input.
