Hello to you all,
I am having such a hard time understanding how home health works, while some offer you work as an independent contractor and others you are w-2 worker, I think it needs to be standardized by the state.
I went to fill out an application today after the agency called me because they saw my resume online, mind you I drove 26 miles spent 30 minutes to get there then the office manager or whoever he was came up to me in the waiting room where I was filling out the paper work thinking that afterwards I will be going in for an interview to basically give me a short and unprofessional run down right after he asked me if I have any home health experience I told him no and he went on to tell me how much he pays for cases and what my status will be so here it goes. AND CAN ANYONE tell me if this is normal? He flat out told me that first, He pays $12 per visits and depending on how far from my house he will consider paying a little more, secondly, I will be working as a self contractor, and third he doesn't pay for mileage, then finally he just walked away and close his office door I was not only ecstatic I just gave back all the paper work that the receptionist gave me and told her it was just not worth my time and effort.

That's less than half the hourly wage and per visit fees are MUCH higher than that. It was a complete waste of your time.

$12 an hour is insulting no matter what part of the country you live in. I made more than that on some cases as a home health aid.
I'm sorry you had your time wasted. If employees are so under valued, imagine how the agency treats patients!

$12? What kind of nurse does this guy think he's going to find to work for $12?

I really hope no one takes this job.
I am going to try to call that agency back to verify that he actually know that I was there as an RN to see if he is still saying that he only pays $12 dollar per case, because this is really killing me, I need more verification then I'll let you guys know one more time that he didn't make a mistake, and now days a lot of those HH agency are asking RN's to do laundry, cook for the patient because some of us new grads are so desperately looking for a job we are doing whatever that is not in our job description...
That sounds like a Home Health Aide job, NOT an RN job. I can believe that a HHA would earn $12/hr (but an hour, not per case) but certainly cannot believe that any self-respecting RN would work for that rate. Agencies should not be expecting RNs to do that kind of work... it's not a smart idea because insurance companies will not pay for nurse to do those things.
