Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) BSN 2017-2018

Published

Hi everyone! This is my first post after lurking and reading posts for over a year. My reason for posting now is because I haven't seen anything here about the current application cycle for Pacific Lutheran University's BSN program. It's located in Tacoma, WA!

My application was received by PLU on the very last day of 2016, and they sent me an email 5 days later saying they needed one more LOR and formal admission to the university. I checked in with my instructor again, and she sent the LOR very shortly after. I also got a letter from admissions saying I was admitted with a great academic scholarship just a bit smaller than the Provost. Yay!!

As of right now, I have a 3.93 cumulative GPA, 3.96 college level GPA and 3.975 in the pre-reqs. I'm also a CNA with over 3 years of experience in long-term care. I'm almost done with a pre-nursing direct transfer agreement at Green River: currently taking AP 2, Chem& 121 and two humanities/fine arts electives. In a couple weeks, I'll be registering for Microbiology, Chem&131 and two more electives for Spring quarter to finish up the degree. I guess in the meantime, I'll prepare for the long wait and keep up on my grades.

Has anyone here applied for the 2017-2018 cohort? Feel free to reach out! :)

I was also waitlisted. Fingers crossed is waitlisted will get in.

Congratulations to all of you who made it in and for those of you who are waitlisted keep the faith there are several people that drop out due to other circumstances. I don't know why but I felt compelled to introduce myself and see if there's anything I can do or answer any of your questions as I will be a senior one at PLU in the fall. Feel free to ask questions on here or message me if you'd like again congratulations to you all hopefully I'll see you on campus

Thanks everyone for all the love and support! I'll see you guys in the spring! Take care and God bless!

Congrats lisbrow and loveyourkidneys! It makes me happy to hear that out of 20 on the waitlist, a number of you guys were placed on it! Two of my friends were also placed on it. The wonderful thing is that you guys are still a part of the top group of applicants, and there is still hope. If it doesn't work out this year, you know at this point that you have a great chance next time, though I do hope we all get to experience the program together!

Daveyj84, thank you very much for reaching out! I hope to see you on campus at some point!

S14Alex, thank you! Enjoy your summer and fall!

I've been getting some things done for fall semester lately and kind of getting through my nursing school to-do list; you all are welcome to message me if you'd like to chat!

Hi everyone,

My heart goes out to all of you that have been waiting pins and needles, push through it and keep on going, there is a plan for you!

Ms. LPN2013 and LUTE2021 I look forward to meeting you this spring! I know there are a few others in the spring cohort I missed, there was someone else that mentioned this but anyone who has their fall schedule could you share the details?

Daveyj84 you mentioned you could help? I have 3 children and am interested to get an idea what is in store for childcare reasons.

A large part of this question will rely on if you're a direct transfer or if you will have to complete all general education requirements. The nursing schedule itself is very doable. What ages are the children. Classes will not run all day to begin with and if you can study at home even better. I know this is not super helpful but without knowing some of those things it's difficult to answer. If you have more direct questions I would be happy to answer

Hi luccabell29!

Sorry for the delay! I'd be happy to share some details about my fall schedule. If I understand correctly, many forms of financial aid like scholarships require you to be full time, 12-17 credits, so I'm taking 3 classes. Nursing lecture is one day/week, and I think everyone in the cohort is in the same class. We're split up for lab/clinicals. I registered for early AM: lab at 7am-noon the first half of fall (2 days/week), clinical at 6am-noon the second half (3 days/week including Sat). A classmate registered for the afternoon lab/clinical, which I think starts at 11am or noon? The other two classes are religion and language elective in the afternoon. The days for each class alternate.

I believe second semester has 4 nursing classes including pathophysiology, but I don't know a lot about those yet.

Once you're able to register, I'd jump on making the appointment as early as possible due to availability. Early AM lab/clinical was the only one available when I was moved to fall. And as I've probably said before, be sure to stay on top of financial aid (like in banner and communication with the office) as much as possible, because things seem to keep changing. I hope this helps!

I'm a direct transfer and actually met with someone yesterday who is going to start her senior year this fall! It was super helpful. Thank you futurebsnmj and DaveyJ84 for your input. Futurebsnmj it sounds like your a direct transfer? Is Nursing Competencies I a 6 credit class and it includes the lab and clinical? I think for that first semester I think it wise to get that religion class done. If I'm correct that's the only class needed to graduate if you come in as a transfer.

One other question I have DaveyJ84, if you have financial aid do you have to take a J-term class in order to keep your credit status, or are you able to take that month off?

Thanks for your help!

luccabell29, that's great! I'm glad you were able to talk to a senior and get some info. And yes, I'm a direct transfer too! I'm happy to get the extra gen ed out of the way first semester, though I had to throw in the elective to stay full time. It looks like Nursing Competencies I is actually a 4 credit class. :)

Wow! Its only 4 credits? The lab and clinical is associated with it and carries no credits? Bummer. Ok this is helpful I'm getting the bigger picture here, looks like I will have to take an extra class to squeeze in those 12 credits. Are you minoring in anything futurebsnmj?

Yup! On the schedule, it shows 4 credits next to "Nursing Competencies I" and 0 credits next to the associated lab and clinical lines. I ended up squeezing Norwegian into it to make up for the credits. And I thought about minoring before, like in psychology or biology, but I feel like the program is going to be pretty rigorous by itself. Are you planning on minoring in anything? :)

Also, just a heads up, there's a PDF called "Health and Clearance Requirements" under Documents & Forms on the SoN website that you might want to look at. Everything down to HIV training on page 2 are things you can take care of now, but everything after that requires info we haven't received yet.

You'll get details in a big email some time in the fall. I mention it now because repeating certain vaccine series can take months if your titers show you aren't immune. I was told it won't interfere with starting the program, but I'm one of those people that likes to have everything done asap, lol. :)
