Anyone applying for the Fall 2014 and/or Spring 2015 PLU BSN program? I'm putting my finishing touches on my application this week, and I'm very nervous. Love to exchange advice, encouragement, anxiety, and profiles with other applicants. :)
I will be completing my DTA in Spring at Tacoma Community College and currently have a 3.9 cumulative GPA and 4.0 in prereqs. Unfortunately, I do have a messy past from my first time attending a different college that is definitely coming back to haunt me at this point. Sigh. A family friend tried to ease my concerns by saying that PLU takes a holistic approach in considering applicants and they are most interested in the student you are now. *fingerscrossed* *deepbreaths*
Good luck to everyone! :)
No problem! Too funny--I was having some of the very same visualizations! I also noticed that number; 300 seems a bit low to me as well.
My wife and I are going tonight--but just to the concert. It kind of seemed to me (reading into the invitation) that it would be a more general presentation--but who knows? Anyway, I ultimately just opted to go hear some music (I happen to really like jazz; and, my wife is also hoping to get into the PLU nursing program in the future).
Hey everyone! I also applied to the BSN program at PLU. I have a 3.6 in my pre reqs and an overall of 3.65. My grades aren't the best, but what can you do when you work night shift and have a 2 year old! I received my email fairly quickly, and I think I sent the application in around the 20th?? I work as a CNA at St. Joes and that's where PLU does a lot of their clinicals! I always see the nursing students on the floor. It's so hard waiting so long, hopefully we will find out before May!!
As far as the essay went, I mentioned a lot about the conceptual framework and person, environment, etc. I really wanted to show my passion for nursing since that's what it's all about right?? Good luck to everyone! Maybe we will be in the same class soon!
I finally received confirmation of the receipt of my application! It listed all the items they received; and, it specifically noted that the application was complete and meets the February 1, 2014 priority deadline. Phew! The e-mail did also say "you should receive notification of an admissions decision by the end of June..." (ugh). It's great hearing that in previous years, decisions were earlier than this--but it seems that some who are in my boat and submitted their applications right before the deadline might be in for a bit of a wait. And so the test of patience continues!
I received confirmation that they received my application as well. It sounds like it could be a few more months before we hear from the SON. I appreciate that they are interested in understanding the whole person instead of only considering GPA. A coworker of mine is a recent PLU nursing graduate and she highly recommends their program. Fingers crossed that we all get in. Best of luck everyone!!
Super excited, as I got the letter that I was accepted to Seattle U today! That said, I'm going to wait to hear from PLU--I've heard wonderful things about Seattle U, but PLU is still my first choice!
I got the letter from PLU that I was selected to receive the Provost Scholarship--anyone else? I'm hoping that bodes well for getting into the Nursing program as well.
Hello! I've also applied to the PLU 2014 BSN program. Taking Micro and the last Quarter of A&P this quarter but so far my cumulative transfer GPA is 3.83 and prereqs are 3.88. I have previously worked at a retirement home and volunteered at a food bank for 4 years. I received the Provost Transfer scholarship so I hope that works in my favor as I was placed at a table for the interview with someone from nursing admissions. I was reading posts from previous admission years and it looks like people were getting notified as early April for their admission. Hopefully they will be doing that this year as well. Does anyone know what range of GPA PLU generally accepts for potential nursing students?

Lisa,
Congrats on the Provost scholarship! I was thinking along the same lines--I received the scholarship as well, and I'm really hoping that perhaps that might play in our favor.
Good luck!
Didn't get selected for the Provost Scholarship, but I was able to get the Dean's Scholarship and I'm thankful for that. I got an email Monday asking for updated transcripts with Winter's grades, so I sent that over. Reading the older posts, there is a huge timeline on when we could expect our acceptances to come. I am staying hopeful!!!! Maybe we will see some within the next couple weeks =].
ACCEPTED!!!!
I'm so excited I can barely stand it! My wife got the mail today, and ran inside. I hadn't expected anything, as I (probably like everyone) have been checking my e-mail about ten times a day. I asked her to open it, and knew the answer before she spoke when her tears started. She confirmed what I knew: we did it.
I can hardly wait to hear everyone else's stories! It seems that PLU staggers distribution of acceptance letters, so I suspect the agony of waiting will continue for some for quite some time; I'm sending good vibes, and wishing you all the best. I'm excited, nervous, scared, and invigorated... the Fall 2014 cohort is going to ROCK. See you in September!!!

japerryman-Thank you for posting the reply from PLU! I was starting to worry as I have not received a confirmation yet. (I visualized my application falling behind a desk somewhere, never to be found
) It sounds like good news that only 300+ people applied this year, I think that is less than in previous years. Is anyone going to the optional dinner/concert tomorrow? It says that admissions representatives will be there, I don't know if any will be from the SON.
