Anyone applying for the Fall 2014 and/or Spring 2015 PLU BSN program? I'm putting my finishing touches on my application this week, and I'm very nervous. Love to exchange advice, encouragement, anxiety, and profiles with other applicants. :)

I will be completing my DTA in Spring at Tacoma Community College and currently have a 3.9 cumulative GPA and 4.0 in prereqs. Unfortunately, I do have a messy past from my first time attending a different college that is definitely coming back to haunt me at this point. Sigh. A family friend tried to ease my concerns by saying that PLU takes a holistic approach in considering applicants and they are most interested in the student you are now. *fingerscrossed* *deepbreaths*

Good luck to everyone! :)

Has anyone received notification in June?

Nope, I emailed them last week and they told me I will be notified by the end of june.

So things wont be postmarked june 30th then?

So things wont be postmarked june 30th then?

I'm not sure, the way I took it was that all notifications will be sent out by the end of June. So hopefully we'll hear sooner than later.

Hello there, Sieairbear!

I took the Teas V exam last summer, and it wasn't as difficult as I expected. The reading section is mostly just comprehension. The math section has A LOT of fractions, so really study up on those! There is also data interpretation (which was quite easy) and measurement, which was very difficult without a calculator. You aren't able to use a calculator in the room, so practice without one! I would definitely practice multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting fractions. You will also need to recognize roman numerals and be able to convert them to modern numbers. The science section was tough. Studying anatomy and chemistry will certainly help. Know things like the difference between mitosis and meiosis and how to differentiate between cell types. I was surprised to see that there were earth and physical science questions on there, like questions about rocks and stuff. The language section was simple for me, because I'm an English nerd, but if you struggle with grammar, it will be hard. I've heard from "adult" students (people who are returning to school after not being in it for a long time) that the language section was the toughest, because they haven't practiced grammar and sentence structure for a long time.

The test is broken up into these different sections. After 2-3 sections, the proctors will advise that you take a quick break before returning to the test. Here is the book that I bought: Secrets of the TEAS® V Exam Study Guide: TEAS® Test Review for the Test of Essential Academic Skills by TEAS Exam Secrets Test Prep Team | 2940013396135 | NOOK Book (eBook) | Barnes & Noble

It's a great book, and had practice questions very similar to the ones on the exam.

If you are taking the test in an unfamiliar city, school, or building, I would recommend checking out the building a day early, if you know which room you are supposed to be in. I took the test in Spokane, and I was nervous about finding the right room, so I went the day before and checked out the campus and found where I needed to be the next day. I know that doing that relieved some of my anxiety, and helped me stay calm before the exam.

I'd love to answer any of your other questions if you have any! :)

Good luck!!

Thank you so much for the information! I feel like im over thinking it but thats usually a good thing, i rather be over prepared than under. I just got my copy of ATI's study guide for the TEAS V so i will be using that primarily. Was it very in depth with physical science? I havent had any type of physical science since highscool (which was minimal) and thats what im really worried about

Along the lines of different mass properties and formulas?

There were only 14 Earth and Physical Science questions, and other than one about different types of rocks, I don't remember them being too difficult. I didn't study that section at all, and I did about average, so as long as you at least skim the info in the study guide, you should be fine. I was in the same situation as you. I would be more worried about the anatomy and chemistry questions than the physical science ones. Sorry I don't remember any specifics about mass. I don't think you'll need to remember many formulas besides the ones given in the study guide.

Also, I forgot to add that even though the test is timed, most people don't need to worry about finishing each section in time. Everyone that took the test with me finished with lots of extra time left.

allisonr,

what school did you have to take the teas for? Did you send your scores to PLU? (I know its not required but I wonder if it could help?) Also if you don't mind sharing how did you do on it? How soon after taking the prereqs did you take it?

At request of my parents I applied to and was offered a BSN spot at the University of Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Ks. I grew up in Kansas and choose to stay here when I got out of the military. Unfortunately we just closed on a house in Lacey and renting it out at this time isn't an option nor do we have the money to move now. I have 14 month old son so I could not stay in dorms. Its such a terrible feeling to know my dream is so close but so far...For anyone that would be interested in relocating there are still two spots left...the program starts the second week of August. The women I spoke with said they have a large amount of student from California. The average wait time is three years to get into a nursing program!!!

I took the TEAS to get into the WSU Intercollegiate College of Nursing in Spokane, WA in Spring 2014. While my scores were high enough to get an interview, I bombed the interview, and ended up not being accepted. Luckily, I ended up being accepted into PLU for Fall 2014. No, I didn’t send my scores to PLU. I’m not sure if it will help, since they don’t ask for them. I finished the anatomy series in June 2013, and completed the test in August 2013. My last English class before the test was the previous summer, and my last math class was a statistics class I finished December 2012. I had not taken microbiology yet, however, I don’t think this affected my scores very much. I got an “advanced” score of 80%. The national mean is 64.3% and the program mean is 70.6%. My national percentile rank was 88, while my program percentile rank was 77. I was above average in all of the categories, except for Earth and Physical Science, where I was average, and measurement, where I missed 3 of the 4 questions because of a simple calculating error that I realized after my exam.

From what I've heard, you want to get at least a high 70's score on the TEAS to have a chance to get in. You can always retake it if needed. My friend got a 75% on her test, and was able to get into WSU.

Has anyone gotten anything from PLU yet? Man whats going on!?
