Pacific Lutheran University (BSN 2014)

Anyone applying for the Fall 2014 and/or Spring 2015 PLU BSN program? I'm putting my finishing touches on my application this week, and I'm very nervous. Love to exchange advice, encouragement, anxiety, and profiles with other applicants. :)

I will be completing my DTA in Spring at Tacoma Community College and currently have a 3.9 cumulative GPA and 4.0 in prereqs. Unfortunately, I do have a messy past from my first time attending a different college that is definitely coming back to haunt me at this point. Sigh. A family friend tried to ease my concerns by saying that PLU takes a holistic approach in considering applicants and they are most interested in the student you are now. *fingerscrossed* *deepbreaths*

Good luck to everyone! :)

Hello! I am also applying for the BSN program at PLU for the 2014-2015 school year! I just finished my application today and will be mailing it off either tomorrow or the next day. I'm finishing the last prereq this quarter (biochem). I too will have a DTA. They said its very helpful if you have one. I also have a 3.9 overall GPA in college course work and a 4.0 GPA in the prereqs. I am applying to a handful of other programs but PLU is my top choice! I've seen in past forums that people have been finding out about their acceptance as early as April. I went to the Jan 7th info session. Most of the topics he talked about was stuff I already knew. He did say a couple things that they would be considering that I didnt even think about... such as they will look at high school transcripts and college for "patterns." Hope this helps! Good Luck! :)

I mailed in my application the other day and got a conformation email from PLU that they received it. Were you able to mail yours in yet? Anyone else on here applying to PLU for this coming school year?

Is it true from my understanding, if your a transfer or done preq in their school, it's three years of nursing school?

Yes. PLU's BSN is a 3 year program. It's doesn't matter if you're a transfer or have attended PLU since freshmen year. The reason why the program is a year longer than other programs in the area is that it has more clinical hours.

Hi! I am also applying to the BSN program at PLU. My overall GPA is 3.5 and I am just finishing DTA in Pre-nursing. I have been working as a CNA for 5 years and have 3 years of hospital experience. PLU is definitely my top choice! I just hope that my GPA is high enough. Does anyone know how many nursing applicants they get each year? Or what percentage of applicants are admitted?

Hello! I was told they would probably get around 400ish. That could always change. There's 40 spots for fall and 40 for spring.

Oh, wow. That means it is more competitive than UW, based purely on the numbers of applicants/slots. UW said at their info session they get about 400 applicants for 90 seats.

Are you also applying to the bsn program at PLU anichka?

No, but I applied to the ELMSN program this year.

Good luck everyone! Hope to see you all at PLU!!

I just managed to slip under the wire and sent off my SoN application today... I went down to the post office to be sure it had the January 31st Post mark! I was actually kind of glad I waited an extra day or two, as I got the confirmation I was formally accepted to the University, so I could check that box on the SoN application.

Sounds like there are some really strong candidates! Like some of the others, I'm coming in with a 3.95 DTA degree (Highline); not quite 4.0 on the prereqs (3.9 on Ochem--4.0 everywhere else); 15 years experience in healthcare, working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. I've been a training instructor for the last 5 years, teaching new employees. I teach Fundamentals of Caregiving, CPR/First Aid, Dementia Specialty, Mental Health Specialty, D.D. Specialty, and a few others. I'm also a CNA.

PLU is definitely my first choice. I grew up in Tacoma (Bellarmine '93), live in Puyallup, and although I applied to SU (sounds like a great school as well) I'm crossing the fingers, toes, and anything else I can find in hopes to be a Lute come Fall. Good luck everyone!
