PACE ABSN fall 2015 (NYC)

Published

Hey everyone!

I wanted to start a thread for anyone that applied to PACE for the fall 2015 accelerated cohort in NYC. I submitted my application a while ago and have been reading previous threads. Some of the applicants were interviewed and they seemed to received their acceptance/rejection letters quickly.

good luck to everyone!!

oh wow, thats encouraging to hear good things about Pace and the one year program. I got into both Seton Hall and Pace and I am still debating between the two schools, although I am leaning toward Seton Hall because of all the negativity I have heard about Pace. Does anyone have any advice? I feel like Pace will almost be too overwhelming since I would be commuting from north jersey to the city. Thanks!

I remember looking into Seton Hall also but can't remember too much about the program. I think there were some pre-reqs that I didn't feel like completing at the time. Sorry I can't give you specific advice.

I feel like the didactic part of any one-year ABSN will be similar (intense and hard as hell). What about the location of your clinicals? How do they rank in your area and nationally? Is the HESI a component of the program and do you need a particular score to advance through or is it just a percentage of your final grade? What is the reputation of Seton Hall graduates and hospitals' perception of them versus Rutgers/UMDNJ students or other area schools (you don't want to be lowest on the totem pole), how state-of-the-art is the lab that you will be simulating real-life situations in? etc.

I know a girl from Bergen County and another person from NJ somewhere that commute everyday to our campus. I think they take the Tappan Zee which they say is usually less congested and costs $5.00 to enter NY.

Good luck on your decision!

Just to clarify, I was referring to the Pleasantville program not NYC regarding the commute - sorry!

Thanks for the reply! I will look into all of that! I got my clinicals in great hospitals in New york city for Pace and I think that is super exciting but I keep telling myself that it isn't all about the hospitals, its also the school and my education I will get from there. I don't want to base my decision just on the hospitals when I will be there once a week.

Hi edibe001, sorry for the late reply! I'm most likely going to pace 1 yr program:] Whats your e-mail address? I'm [email protected]

Congrats to everyone who got into the program. I am planning on applying to the PACE for either the spring or fall semester. How was the interview? Also, I read in last year's thread that there were some practice tests on the PACE website, does anyone know exactly what page I can find that on? Did anyone apply and get accepted that had pre-reqs outstanding? Any response will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi can someone confirm Orientation dates for Pace next week...

Hi,

Has anyone applied for the Spring 2016 Accelerated Program? I had my interview this Monday and was told that I would receive a decision within a few days but everyday I check the mail and my email.....Nothing....the waiting is so stressing me out. I called the admissions office yesterday and I was told that the decision usually takes a few weeks, so I don't know what to believe. I am just praying I get some good news soon.

@city28 i highly recommend looking into other accelerated programs. I am in my first semester at Pace and it is extremely disappointing.

Let me elaborate...I am not sure if you are looking to enter the one year or two year program. Nonetheless, both are underwhelming. Pace boasts about its 100% NCLEX passing rate. What they don't tell you is that only 6 people graduated the one year program last year (out of 50ish admitted). There is a reason that there aren't any 11 month nursing programs out there (other than Drexel), it is because it is more or less impossible. The amount of busy work is absurd, and the majority of the professors are incompetent and do not seem to care about the students. In the program, you get the sense that they want you to fail. They spent the majority of orientation stressing how we would not succeed...The program is deceptive. They do not disclose their retention rates or tell you how many people actually finish in 11 months. The truth is, according to the adviser of the ABSN program, most people switch into the two year track during the second semester. This is because the second semester entails 3 clinical courses (med surg, pediatrics, obgyn,), patho 2, and psychopharm. Students realize that it is impossible to pass (passing is a 77), and then are forced to drop to the two year program, which is a part time program where you pay per credit. You are then penalized and lose a substantial amount of money switching to the two year program. I am not a lazy student that does not want to put in the work. I am extremely motivated and attended a prestigious undergraduate university and graduated with honors. However, the program is just not reasonable. The two year program is very doable, however you are a part time student for the majority of the time. It would make more sense to enroll in a 16-18 month program rather than a 24 month program that doesn't support their students.

Hi,

After reading you comment, I am wondering if Pace is for me. I am wondering if the 15 month accelerated program at NYU is better? I also know that Stoneybrook has a 12 month program but it might just be as intense as Pace's accelerated program....I have not received a decision. from Pace as yet,,,,so I guess I have to just wait to see what happens. I also applied to NYU but did not hear from them as yet....Are you in a Nursing program?

Stony Brook's program is far superior, but also difficult and much harder to get into. I know some people in NYU's program and it is much more doable. They do admit a much larger class size compared to Pace. It is definitely easier than Pace's program, and they seem to take care of their students (from what I have been told). I am currently in the Pace absn program. There is a comment somewhere above in this thread saying that the people who dislike the Pace program probably aren't doing well. While I can't speak for others, I have all A's so far but I still dislike it. I would find students to talk to and attend information sessions if you can. Ask questions about retention rates in relation to NCLEX passing rates.
