Does anyone have any expeirence with physician assistants on labor and delivery? My wife is looking to hire a PA and is convinced that they can do just about anything their doc will let them, going as far as doing uncomplicated lady partsl deliveries.
Anyone care to share what their PA's do?

sorry can't help you. we never use them---Just CNM's and MD's.
That's all I ever heard of. I've seen PA-C's in an Ob/Gyn office. My wife's doc has one. But she never ventured out of the clinic.

Nope, none at our 1200 deliveries per year hospital. Level 2 nrsry, so we send all complicated cases to the "Big House", AKA our Main campus.
Starting to think my theory might be true.
You can teach a monkey to do a c-section... but only nurses/doctors can tell you when and why.
:D
basically.

I have never heard of this. Why would someone want a PA to deliver babies?
dunno fergus. makes no sense to me either.
So the supervising MD can bill for their service and make 3500 while either sitting in the lounge or the comfort of their home.
I guess in rural areas it could be done. But I'll take a newly hired janitor over a PA-C when it comes to catching one of my kids.
I would NEVER allow a PA to deliver my child. I don't think it's appropriate and would have serious concerns if my OB even suggested it to me. I would allow a GP or a midwife or an OB. Nothing else.
I agree Fergus.
But I wouldn't let a FP doc do a c-section.
No, not a c-section, but with my birthin hips, that ain't gonna happen;) My mother actually used the words "physically easy" to describe my birth....
