  1. OMG!!!!!! C'mon up to Detroit area and make 21.00 as a 1st year RN. I make 25.25, 5yr RN pay scale. We top out at 28.00. This is at the largest hospital group in S>E. Michigan, we have like 8-10 hospitals to choose from!

  3. Yes lets stick together on this- I have known nurses with all levels of education and have found that all different levels of experience and common sense as well as intelligence exist within all ranks. Trust me, I know RNs with a Masters degree that don't sound intelligent enough to find their way to work in the morning. And I know LPNs that can nurse circles around the BSNs. This is a timeless debate that will never be resolved.
  4. I worked in long term care when I had my secnond and third. I was working as a Nurses Aide for child # 2, took leave 2 weeks prior, worked as Nurse for child # 3- I would have been at work the day I delivered except my dog was sick and the oldest had head lice (GASP!) new kindergartner who had tried on someone elses headgear! The day BEFORE I delivered the nurse aides were one short so I worked on the floor with them, lifting pts in and out of bed and bathing changing briefs etc. NEVER had any complications of pregnancy, EVER. Never preterm labor either. Make of it what you will!

Nope, none at our 1200 deliveries per year hospital. Level 2 nrsry, so we send all complicated cases to the "Big House", AKA our Main campus.
  6. Such a sad situation, I hope you are able to get to the bottom of the when and how, and hope you are able to make decisions that your fmily can live with. As for the school thing, my 14 yr old announced at the dinner table TONITE that a couple was suspended for- you guessed it- having sex in the bathroom at school. They walked out straight into the security guards chest!!! :chuckle In my state if you are pregnant you are an emancipated minor- therefore, your parents have NO SAY about what you do with the baby, including taking it home for THEM to raise, feed, clothe, etc.....- :angryfire _ You can tell how I feel about THAT!!!!!!
  7. I agree that it is probably a management issue or could there be a staffing issue? We never have more than 4 couplets assigned to one nurse unless we are shorthanded. When this occurrs it is usually because the main unit is full and the PPs have been transferred to our overflow unit which is near but not near enough to share nursing staff, once you are there, you only take care of patients there. WE don't send the PPs til after their 2 hour recovery is done. We are small- 100-130 deliveries a month. We sometimes have to switch gears in the midle, but not very frequently. Usually we keep the same assignment, and structure them so that a few are designated for next admit and they help the others until that next admit comes,or if we are rocking, we may have a few couplets plus a labor and the techs will help keep an eye on the couplets. We do have fairly good teamwork here.
  8. Just my two cents- we are cross trained but there is a core group of nurses that ONLY do PP or Labor or Nursery Special care. They never learned to be comfortable with everything and therefore aren't forced to. So far no problems. I do everything and so i end up with a variety, so I never feel bored. ( I am new tho, only 1 year under my belt.)
