spooky spooky spooky
I really really want to believe. I lost my sister in 2001,it was very unexpected, right before I passed my boards. She walked into the hospital and three weeks later she died. She was in a coma and I never got to say goodbye. I prayed and prayed she would send me some sign, anything that she was ok. It never happened. And this past summer, my neice went missing on the 4th of July. A week later we found out she was murdered by a serial killer. I have lost many many family members, and I have never had any experiences. Maybe some people are more receptive then others, lord knows I wanted to know they didn't suffer. On the other hand, I have had some strange feelings....When we first moved into our house, we had kept switching bedrooms while we were doing over the rooms. When we started sleeping in the upstairs bedroom, I started having terrible, evil dreams. The funny thing is, we have since redone this room and I sleep like a baby. Who Know??? Maybe the bad spirit didn't like the old wall paper!

New Grad..start LTC in a week. Any advice? :)
Hi Missy. I do agree that hospital exp. is great to have. I went straight into Long Term Care and wish I did some hospital. On the other hand I LOVE LTC and really don't want to do anything else. I have not seen any problems with getting a job at a hospital after working only LTC. Several nurses that I work with are now working part-time at the hospitals. We make more $ per hour..but the hosps. blow us away with bennies. Now, I will try to answer your question. The CNA's have been the biggest challenge for me. Fortunately, I have a fantastic "Head CNA" and she takes care of making sure they do their jobs,so it doesn't seem like I am always "on them". We also have a very bad lack of communication between staff nurses. We are working to correct it, but it will take time.

Personal question regarding labor
Sorry it took so long to get back to everyone! Derek Jeffrey was born at 12:30am on Oct 22. I ended up having a C-section because I never dilated beyond 3.5 cm and he was not tolerating the contractions well. I am thrilled, but soooo tired!! :)

Overdue baby testing?
Thank you for well wishes, But I am not rushing out to the hospital just yet. I was just reading all the post on here about people "crying wolf" that they were in labor, when they are barely dilated. I don't want to be one of "them" LOL.

Overdue baby testing?
I realize that 2 weeks either way from your due date is the norm. And most first babies are closer to the 41-42 week mark. I was more concerned with the health then the actual date, because I read the other post about the non-stress test. This morning at 8 am I lost my mucus plug and had some bloody show. Now, I have been having tolerable contractions since 7:30pm that are about 10 minutes apart now, but don't seem to be getting any more intense or closer. Guess I have to wait somemore :)

Overdue baby testing?
Hello, I did a search on this topic because I didn't want to repeat a post. I seen a post on how far past due date mom need to be before Docs intervene. I was due on 10/12/04, ( I have pretty regular cycles and know the date of conception ) I do not want to be induced, but I am concerned about the babies well being. I read in the other post that they usually do non-stress testing every couple of days past due date? I am due to have some testing done on the 20th. Is that too late? Baby is still active, but I have no signs of labor. My last appointment at 40 weeks and 1 day, I was not dilated or effaced. Should I have requested testing sooner?

Personal question regarding labor
Hello, I am sorry to bother all you OB-Nurses with a personal question, but I am confused. Yesterday, I had cramping all day, menstrual like cramps. They were not painful, just uncomfortable. Also, had bad heartburn and some nausea. The cramps are gone, but heartburn and nausea are still present. I am due on 10/12/04, but I don't see my Doc again until 10/13/04. Is this my body getting ready or do I have a bug?

Amniotic Fluid Embolism Scare...
congrats on passing the boards and on the baby!! I do agree with the other posters..ignorance is bliss. I am not an Ob-Nurse, but I do remember my rotation quite well. The female body is made to give birth. I remember being so amazed and blown away by the whole process!

Am I the only one to feel this way?
Please never say you are just an LPN! You are a nurse and one that is trying to better herself! I have a friend, (Who I love dearly) who can make me feel like a complete failure in one visit. She is a wonderful women and it's not intentional, but everytime I see her I just wonder what the heck I'm doing. She works full-time, has a really nice, SPOTLESS house, is a great cook who is always baking from scratch, is extremely crafty and is as thin as a rail. In short...she is a nice Martha Stewart. Oh and she is an incredible nurse! My house always looks like a tornando has gone thru..(and I have no kids) I am looking frumpy ALL the time. I can hardly boil water..let alone bake from scratch. Please, love your sweet baby with her dirty face, be proud you are a good mom and a good nurse and be proud you are going to get your RN diploma.(Our diploma program is considered to have the BEST graduate nurses!) It is HARD work being a mom and it's hard work being a nurse. Give yourself some well deserved credit

Thank you! That was such a nice, positive response! I will just keep reading, and watching Discovery, if I am unable to get into a class. I appreciate your positive comments :)

DOES anyone find that Management in LTC is a problem?
OH MY PJ Marie...You sound like you work at my facility...I love working with the elderly..I really do, but I have had it with Administrators who think they can make nursing judgements, and DON's who love to fire and write people up, but are so careless, and lazy when the work the floor! My administrator will take anyone to keep the beds full...and I mean anyone.
