Overseas/travel lpn

Published

Interested in traveling or being overseas after I finish my program here in Canada - BC (LPN).

I have some questions, such as...

what cities/provinces and countries am i allowed to work in?

what are the hours/pay like? (broad question i know)

is there any pension/sick time/relocation allowance?

who would i be working for exactly? would i belong in a union?

what is my scope of practice? or is it the same as if i were working in Canada

are there many job opportunities?

any training involved (additional)? if so how long is the training?

what kind of questions can i ask a nurse recruiter that may be important?

any answers to any of my questions or any sites that may focus on these type of questions would be really appreciated! Thanks!

Specializes in Community Health/School Nursing.

You should look into the USVI (US Virgin Islands). You will be required to have your BLS, ACLS and PALS certification.

I have my license there. I was planning on moving there but that is put on hold for a while.

Good luck in your search!

i have some questions, such as...

what cities/provinces and countries am i allowed to work in? pass the cpnre and you can work in any province after you apply for a practice permit in that province. internationally? you'll have to apply to where ever you want to go and see what they say. uk and eu countries have no lpns working and you need to be fluent in whatever language is spoken in the country. australia has enrolled nurses, so who knows?

what are the hours/pay like? (broad question i know) depends on the union contracts or even if a union is involved.

is there any pension/sick time/relocation allowance? again it's up to the employment contract. relocation allowance?? in these economic times???

who would i be working for exactly? would i belong in a union?

what is my scope of practice? or is it the same as if i were working in canada

the rest? who knows. talk to your nursing instructors and see what they have to say.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

Most countries require RN rather than LPN. I think Australia now requires RN for work permit but need to check their government website.

Specializes in Acute Care, Rehab, Palliative.

One of my coworkers looked into travel nursing but she needed her BSN to go anywhere.

Specializes in geriatrics.

Yes a BSN is required to work overseas. I'm fairly certain Australia is the same now.
