Hi all,
I am a quilified nurse from London England who will be moving to California next year. I am a green card holder already. I would like to take the NCLEX exam as soon as possible but i have a few questions. Firstly, does anyone know which state(s) is/are the quickest at posting their results for the NCLEX? Also, if I were to fail, (a high possibility), how soon afterwards could I retake the exam?
If i were to be registered in another state, ie New York, how long does it take to transfer my licence to the state of my residence?
If anyone knows the answers to any of these questions I will be eternally grateful.
Lorraine.

Hi!
I'll try to give you the best info that I can.. Please anyone correct me if anything isn't right..
There is extreme variability in knowing the results of your NCLEX-whether you passed or not.. The company through which you register for the test, "Pearson Vue" (pearsonvue.com/nclex) for certain states can provide you with the results in about 48 hours.. There are only certain states that allow you to use this and you would have to wait for notification from your Board of Nursing's website/phone service.. This can take from about 72 hours to a month..You can see which states allow you to do the 'quick results' if you have a choice to move to any of them..
If you don't pass the NCLEX you either have to wait 45 or 90 days to retake it, again depending on the state. Look at the individual state that you are looking at Board of Nursing website and see what their policy is..
Transferring your license can also vary.. Some state require background checks and some do not which may delay/speed up the process.. The time to transfer it can vary tremendously, some may be more accomadating than others depending on your background..
I'm sorry my advice seems so undefinitive.. It really does vary here in the states as to time it takes for different things.. It's best to look at the websites for all the states that you are considering and put the information together to make an informed decision..You could even post on the state's section on the forums and ask them specifically as well, that's what I did to learn about my options..
Hope all goes well for you..!

Your biggest worry first would be to know if your credentials will be accepted for licensure in the US. We use a completely different system over here, generalist vs. the specialist program in the UK.
How long ago did you graduate?

Yes, Suzanne is right. I got my nursing licence in Germany. I have registered in April for the NCLECX in CA. Still waiting for the processing. They required from my nursing school the curriculum, so I am still waiting for their post. I also have applied for an interim permit,in order to work ina hospital...and I am still waiting for everything..and can't do anything. This is my experience.
I would recomend to apply for NCLEX IN YOUR COUNTRY. Do not quitt your job, like I did. Otherwise you have to wait here in US, like I do, or to get a job like a nurse assistant until everything is done. I hope it can help you a little bit.
