Outpatient Jobs for New Grad

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Does anyone in MA have any ideas of places to work, outpatient, for a new grad? I've searched the Globe, Monster, Hotjobs but can't really come up with anything besides inpatient hospital. Thanks

Hi,

Stick with the job searching. I had to take a seasonal retail job in 2005. However, January 2006 rolled around and I did find an outpatient nursing position north of Boston. I limited myself by searching Boston and the burbs; the job I got was greater than 1hr. away which I'll admit was not fun but you do what you have to. It was not my first choice, but it was a job and it gave me the experience I needed to move on to a great nursing job. I am a huge fan of craiglist for job postings too.

Good Luck!!

Congrats on your achievement!!!I am in the same boat. Got my license in 12/08. Started a job in Feb(LTC/Nsg Home) and left in March. It was too depressing and crazy for me. It was the only job that came up. I applied to soooo many hosps, agencies, nsg homes- you name it I did it. I have to start all over again and I really need this income. I am in the Central MA area and most of the hosp have hiring "freezes". It is so sad when you cannot get a job because you NEED experience. I say keep on looking and networking. Tell anyone and everyone you are a nurse looking for a job. I've been doing that and hopefully things will brighten soon. Good Luck and have faith!!

can you please let me know the place you left?

can you tell me where you guys ended up taking jobs?? i am now looking as a new grad! :) thanks! any advice/tips that can be given helps!

I am having the same experience. I am graduating in December and I'm seeing nothing available for new grads.

There are other options. For example, my hospital has a unit that has 2 sections -- one section that specializes in outpatient procedures -- and another that includes a few ICU step-down beds. The nurses work in either section. They hire new grads. A lot of hosptials have specialized units that hire new grads and that offer some unique experiences. You might find yourself happier in one of those units than in the large general med/surg units.

Few people in any profession get their "dream job" as their first job. Most people work their way up the career ladder and/or have a couple of jobs during which they develop their professional skills and/or find the right fit. If you have to accept a job that is not your first choice as a new grad, treat it as part of your education. Do your best work, make a good impression on those around you (who can help you in your career), and learn as much as you can. You'll soon have the experience you need to qualify for a larger variety of jobs.

Good luck,

llg

I am a new grad RN BSN since May and I can't find any job in any hospital or LTC. You say your hospital hires new grads? I don't care where I work or which specialty or what hours or days I just want a job! Any suggestions on where I can go? I've tried almost everywhere I can think of in the Boston area.

Specializes in Pediatrics, ER.

You can apply as a substitute school nurse. Newburyport, MA school system uses their per diem school nurses a lot. Flu clinics are also a start. Camp nursinng, etc...some agencies will take new grads without experience. United Homecare in Peabody is one of them.
