  1. Hi everyone....hope all is going well for you. My question is this: does anyone have a reputable website that they use for CEU's. There is so much out there and it is causing me anxiety and confusion. I found one website where you take as many credits for $29.95 which sounds too good to be true. Please help!!:)
  2. SarahBeth~I am with you 100%. I began my search for a job after graduation 9/08, got my license in 12/08. After 2 months of looking(I mean I applied to Worcester, Boston, and RI hospitals) with no luck whatsoever. First of all, noone wants a new Grad RN unless of course that facility is offering that particular program(and believe me, there aren't many her in MA). If you do apply, you have to remember there is so much competition for whatever few spots there are. I became so frustrated that I took a job at a nursing home and absolutely hated it. Now mind you, I'm older and have worked w/geriatric population for many, many years, so I was depressed and sad most of the time(5 wks-orientation). I took the job with the hope that I would somehow "fit" in and make it work, but instead I was miserable. Yes, I realize the economy is really bad and that I should have made it work, but it was not right for me. It seems that these are basically the choices for new Grads(Nursing homes, subacute care/LTC and rehab). Just about every agency and/or hosp says get at least 1 yr exp and come back. Also, it is difficult to get a job in a Dr's office as they are usually affiliated w/hosp and so you have to see if anything's avail through the hosp website. I have been optimistic, patient and all that but honestly, that is not going to pay my bills. I want so bad to practice and am not sure if/when that chance will come. Those of you who are arrogant and think you know what you're talking about have no idea what it's like. When I was in school, I thought I'd have a job right away. Well, I am back to searching AGAIN and I hope I as well as anyone of you looking is successful soon. I have a friend who works at a major hosp in Boston(has been RN for over 25 yrs) and she is making $45/hr, so that $55/hr IS a bunch of you know what. I have to say that maybe 25yrs agao, Nursing was considered a noble profession, but noone should ever go into nursing thinking there's money to be made. That can be a fallacy! Good Luck!
  3. Congrats on your achievement!!!I am in the same boat. Got my license in 12/08. Started a job in Feb(LTC/Nsg Home) and left in March. It was too depressing and crazy for me. It was the only job that came up. I applied to soooo many hosps, agencies, nsg homes- you name it I did it. I have to start all over again and I really need this income. I am in the Central MA area and most of the hosp have hiring "freezes". It is so sad when you cannot get a job because you NEED experience. I say keep on looking and networking. Tell anyone and everyone you are a nurse looking for a job. I've been doing that and hopefully things will brighten soon. Good Luck and have faith!!
  4. Wow! I would be all over this one. This person thinks she is a nurse. She should not be Dx'ing anyone. She is not qualified to come to such conclusions(let alone the incorrect Dx). In fact, nurses can't even make Medical Dx. Be sure you follow-up on this one for the safety of other children.
  5. So typical of Nursing tests.....I would go w/O2 because that temp if high would=infection. Not the case here, 94 is hypothermia which as indicated above can occur w/surgery. It is not uncommon, however, all efforts must be made to elevate this temp as soon as possible. Any other ?'s
  6. Hello talker1584. Yes, I know there are others out there like you. I am one of them. I became an RN(12/08) and it took me 20 yrs(after an illness, trying to have children, learning issues and yes, failures). The point is I am here! Please be sure you are being honest w/yourself(are you fully committed to this). I'm not trying to be sarcastic. Only take care of the immediate things(family and job), the rest can wait(will have to). You must study most of your time esp if you have a diff time. Ask for help(at school and home). Don't ever let anyone say that you won't be a good nurse because you failed. Chances are they have no idea what it's like. Don't give up! Follow your heart and if you truly want this, you will get there! You made it that far,so that should tell you something...look in the mirror everyday and tell yourself that you are a capable and confident adult(believe in it). Surround yourself w/positive people and walk away from the negative as they can bring you down. Good luck and keep me informed. Take care.
  7. CONGRATS ncgatorgirl! What a great feeling and sigh of relief(for now)! Enjoy that feeling as there is more to come. Take care.:bowingpur
  8. may i ask- did you stick up for this nurse? This is a type of "bullying" if you will and gives our profession a bad rep. We need to help one another by supporting each other!
  9. I've been there many times....first try not to be so hard on yourself. I understand all that money and you feel it was wasted. It wasn't...sometimes you can be in the "wrong" program/school-I was. It has taken me 25 yrs(a marriage, 2 kids, depression, learning disability on top of your normal everyday stessors) to become an RN(a/o 12/3/08). You need to find out what the problem may be(i.e.any learning issues, anxiety, etc) If not, talking to a professional may help in many ways. Some of my prob was self esteem issues of which occurred while in school due to some Instructors who had issues of their own. I am 47 and so let this be hope for you. Please let me know how it all pans out.
  10. I too am a recent RN. I can relate to your being nervous, but remember we got through school, so we can get through anything that comes our way. I am an "older" nurse, but I will ALWAYS ask questions if I have to....better to be safe than sorry
  11. I am an "older" RN(brand new) and I really appreciate all the advice I've been reading. Thanks. I have seen alot already and know what exists out there, so I am a little more prepared.
