Our Lady of Lourdes Nursing Program (Camden)

Published

I sent my application into OLOL (Camden) and I was wondering if anyone has attended this program in the past few years? I havent really found anything on the internet about this school and I was wondering if it is a good program or not. I have read that it was good 30 years ago... but how about now? I wanted to start Jan. 2012 but they already picked for that start date so I have my application in for August 2012. As of now that is my 1st choice in schools unless I hear that it's not a great program. I am very nervous about Nursing School to start with so it is important for me to hear about the program.

I need A&P I and II (taking them over the summer); the Intro to Nursing (summer); Chemistry and Microbiology (fall). So, I'll be finished well before the start of the program. I hope.....

WOW... you are taking A&P I & II over the summer. Good luck. They are tough courses to take together. Well, I hope that everything works out for you.

Sorry to hijack! I just came across your thread through a google search. I am wondering if anyone knows when the OLOL clinicals are offered? I have been taking pre-reqs at GCC and just recently found out that their clinicals are only offered in the mornings during the week. With three small kids this would be really hard for me, so an evening/weekend clinical would be ideal.

I wish I could help, but I'm not sure. I got the impression that most schools have day time clinicals. I actually did, though, speak with a school in FL (Rasmussen College) that wanted students to be available weekends and overnights, as they said those were some of the only clinical times they were able to get.

I hope something works out for you! Good luck!

Im not sure either but I would assume day clinicals since school is during the day. That might be a wrong assumption though. I would call and ask. Sorry I coulnt be more help.

Thanks girls. I'm going to call and ask. Beautygirl, I wish I could move to FL, but that is out of the question. I don't understand why no programs here offer evening/weekend class/clinical times. *sigh*

I think the reason there aren't more evening and weekend clinicals is because of the lack of supervision. Overnight, you don't get very much hands on patient experience, and there aren't as many supervising nurses there to oversee students. The weekends are usually the same with regard to supervision - not enough nurses to treat patients and supervise students.

Good luck finding something that works! I know a woman who ended up having to leave clinicals because her husband got an out of town assignment, and she had to be at "work" at 6:30 AM - she couldn't find anyone to watch her kids :-(

Hi everyone!

I am also applying to OLOL nursing program for Fall 2012. I do feel like some of their information is confusing. I applied and met with one of the people there, and basically they want to see your science grades. What I do like about OLOL is that you are not competing with anyone else, just with yourself getting good grades. I just have no idea what courses need to be completed before you are accepted. The only science course that I need to finish is microbiology, and I will be taking that in the summer. There is also another pre-requisite, which is World Civilization. This is NOT the same as western civ! It is only offered at Camden County College. Also, statistics and nutrition is not required anymore. My friend did turn me onto the blog they have... I think it will help some confusion, but I still do not know when you would find out an acceptance and what classes need to be completed. ugh! Maybe if we all stick together and share any information we have it will help!

The person from OLOL also said not to take Nursing 101 until you get accepted. I'm so confused. lol

Here is the link to the blog: http://ololsonenrollmentservices.blogspot.com/

I have heard good things about this school... I just hope I get accepted!

I'm a bit irked that they wouldn't have notified people of the changes - because they are MAJOR changes. And I'm irked that I've already taken nutrition and statistics, and JUST got his permission this past week to register for Intro to Nursing, which is now no longer needed.

This is seriously confusing - I'm going to need World Civ now (I took Western Civ AND US History). I would have been eligible MUCH sooner had I known these changes were coming.

And now I'm worried that if I do take the right classes that OLOL requires, I won't be able to get in anywhere else :-(

UGH!

i think nursing 101 is required, but the OLOL rep advised me not to take it until I was "officially" accepted, because it won't transfer anywhere else.

i also have western civ and us history as well.. both 1 and 2 of each subject.

i am still going to apply to other places, but OLOL is my first choice!! i know there is an open house next weekend, but i have class and cannot make it.

Actually, from his blog, he's got this:

Courses deleted from our Program to reflect the Fall of 2012 class: Elements of Statistics, Intro to Nursing & Nutrition. - of course, I've already done two of them, and arranged my summer schedule to accommodate Intro to Nursing. Now the early A&P class I wanted is full - after I dropped it in favor of the night time one to accommodate the Intro to Nursing.

The worst part is, Camden County had to call him to get his permission to put me into the Intro to Nursing Course, because I wasn't "officially" admitted to Lourdes. He called them back before I ever got out of the registration building to let them know to accept me :-(

UGH - and I'm not going to love World Civ :-(

i don't think it will be too bad. they don't offer world civ in the summer, so that means the fall. i would assume they would accept you even if you didn't have that course, considering they just changed it. i don't know anyone that has taken that, even as a gen ed. everyone takes western civ or us history. im still wondering why it is required. lol
