OU Traditional BSN Fall 2016

U.S.A. Oklahoma

I haven't seen a thread for it, so I thought I'd start one...has anyone else applied for OU's Fall 2016 Traditional BSN program?! :) I applied to all 3 campuses!

Hello! I was accepted into the fall 2018 program in OKC! We have our own thread but it isn't as active. I was just wondering what kinds of things you guys recommend we buy for clinicals and such? Also, since the OKC has around 100 students, are all the classes in one big room? I know we're split up into groups for clinicals but how do the regular classes work?

Hey nursing0572! :)

At orientation, they handed us a list of supplies that were required for school. Nursing shoes, I believe they said no mesh shoes were allowed (athletic shoes with that "breathable" material) for fear of dropping needles or splashing body fluids seeping through, but this was a rarely enforced rule. They make you buy their scrubs from the school or buy dark maroon like scrubs elsewhere, but you still have to buy the OU College of Nursing patch from the school and affix it to the scrubs you buy. We needed a pen light and this little dry-erase booklet to record assessment data you collect during clinical. A stethoscope is needed of course! Also books. Lots of books. All of these things you can either buy through the College or at the bookstore, but you can go elsewhere if you want. It's been a while so I might be missing some things but they should give you that list at orientation!!

Classroom wise, for big lectures we were usually together in one big lecture hall. However, for skills lab we were in a lab room right across the hallway. You are correct in that they split you up into groups (6 to 10 people) for clinical. Your clinical group each semester will be the people you spend the most time with - for skills lab, you are always with your clinical group and several others. For activities in class, they break you down by clinical group number.

Good luck nursing0572!! I wish you the very best at OU! :) If you have any more questions feel free to ask. It's so overwhelming in the beginning, I remember that feeling.

I don't believe they gave us an actual sheet of required items at orientation, but thank you for the information! Another question I had was whether you worked throughout the program/if you think it's a good idea to work (any job really) during those 2 years?

I too found this thread and have been following your progressions, I have a question, OU is where I want to complete my BSN, I am a working husband/father with 2 boys, and was curious if any of you were able to work at all while doing the program or is it designed that you just have to focus on it full time?

Hi there,

I know I am completely late to the party. I assume by now, all of you were accepted and have great jobs. CONGRATS! I bet it was a great feeling when you all finally found out. It seemed like forever before y'all got the letter. I hope it won't be that long but I am going to play it safe and assume I won't hear anything for a hot minute.

I will be sending my application in December. I am a little nervous. My GPA is currently 3.54 and Science GPA is 4.0. I have done all the sciences except Chem. I plan to do that in the Spring. I also will be taking stats and spanish 2 in the Spring. Those are the only pre-reqs left that I need to complete. Will this hurt me?

I am super anxious. Ha. I have been following this thread for the past year and finally decided to comment on it in hopes for some encouragement and advice from some prior OU nursing students.
