OU- 2nd degree BSN

Published

Hi there, I have recently been accepted to OU's 2nd degree BSN program, is anyone out there a grad of this program or student? I am super nervous and like some info. Thanks in advance.

Foresteu --You will get in for sure! When will you be done with the pre reqs? I would apply now! I will be taking the three nursing courses starting in May. I heard nutrition was very easy but the pharm one is harder.

Do not worry too much about online-they are not that bad.

Where are you from? Im from Shelby Township and it would be great if you were in my cohort!

Lisa,

I'm in Warren. I'll be done with the pre-reqs in May. I've got everything ready to apply once I'm done with the pre-reqs. During the summer I'll be taking Micro and Developmental Psy, then in the Fall I will take the three online ones. I might split it up and take one during the summer as well.

My parents live in Warren. Developmental Psy was pretty easy and Micro so so. Are they telling you to wait to apply? I would just hate for you to have eveything done and not get in until fall of 09? I know the Jan 09m class is already full. I am in the May and if you wait to apply you might be in the Sept or even Jan 10...I am not sure how soon you would like to start. But if you can apply now and get accepted that would be great! I would love to know someone in the class with me.

Keep me posted.

I'm taking anatomy and into to biology right now and need them in order to have my application processed(components of gpa). I have already been accepted to Oakland, but not in the nursing program. I'm pretty sure I have to wait until those classes are completed before I can be accepted. So, I just have to wait until those are done.

I'm not worried about developmental psy because I've already taken it. My class didn't transfer because it was child and adolescent development and didn't go far enough into adulthood (really annoying). Same thing happened for my intro to bio course, I have a bachelors of science, so, I hope I would be able to know basic biology. Oh well, what can you do?

I really can't wait until I'm just accepted already! I really hope I don't have to wait until next fall!

Forester-

I just looked at the schedule and in the summer only one of the nursing classes is available. I am going to take the nutrition 220 in may this spring if you want to take with me. I heard this one is sort of work at your own pace but not sure.

Let me know we can register Monday.

Lisa

Nutrition was definitely an "at your own pace" class. You can complete the 4 tests any time during the semester. I waited until the last couple weeks to get started and studied for and finished all the tests in about one week. It was the easiest online class I have ever taken.

lordy lordy I graduated with honors last June. Got my first job on the night shift at a local hospital and learned lots but the hours and unfriendly management was worse than the one year in an accelerated nursing program. Fortunately with the training I landed a job much more suitable for my lifestyle only 7 months later. Nursing school was WORTH EVERY SWEAT AND TEAR AND DOUGHNUT AND FAT POUND gained!!!!!

Good luck.

my ancient website with hints to get through is http://alltsonm.tripod.com/nursing.htm

My most proud moment is that EVERY ONE in my class of 39 graduated. A couple are still trying to pass the NCLEX test but I am sure that will happen even this late in the game.

Suck it up and remember there is so much at stake. Don't give up on your desire to be a nurse. The opportunities are great if you allow yourself to jobhop a bit.

So, anyone have trouble signing up for classes for summer? I'm still pre-program, but def had some trouble on monday. Quick question: Did anyone take PSY 225 online for the program? They are telling me I can't take the class online because spots are reserved for undergrads and other students and that 2nd degree doesn't apply to that. They said I had to take the one at campus (unfortunately the same time as another class I am taking).

It doesn't seem fair that I can't register for the class. I mean it seems to me that 2nd degree need online classes more than regular undergrads. (generalization)

They told me I could wait until registration closes and then they open extra spots to anyone, but there is no guarantee that there will be open spots.

Just wondering if anyone took the class online and how they got around this issue?

Thanks!

My advice for Pre-reqs is to take them at a community college, and search for a good teacher at ratemyprofessor.com. The classes are cheaper, and if you "shop" for a teacher you can make sure you have the best learning experience.

I'm in the program now.....just passed the halfway point:). Good luck guys! MS. RX, it is definitely doable, yes it's hard, but pre-reqs are hard too. If you can do those, you can do the program, the program just has tougher time contraints;).

Hi Forester,

I am second degree, and I took Psych 225 online at Oakland U. in the fall term! And I'm not even an Oakland Student...I start clinicals in the accelerated program at Univ. of Michigan in September. Why don't you call the department chair in psychology, or at least the prof or profs who are scheduled to teach it. Ask them to intervene for you, because if this is true, then it's a brand-new policy.

Good luck

By the way, check Schoolcraft College for their online stuff. They have a lot to offer.

I took Psychology of the Lifespan online at Grand Rapids Community College through the Virtual Learning Collaborative. The course number at Grand Rapids is PY 232. It transferred to Oakland University no problem. If you want more information on the course, let me know. I enjoyed it. I also think it may have been cheaper than OU.

Just checked and the couse is still open for Spring/Summer. The cost is $120/credit hour and the registration fee is waived for people who register through the collaborative.
