OU ABSN 2018 (2017 Applicant)

U.S.A. Oklahoma

Published

Hey there! I am looking to apply this fall for the 2018 OU ABSN program. Any others find their way here yet?

I am still finishing up my first bachelor's degree but will be done in Dec. 2017. I was told that I can still apply in the fall.

I am expecting rejection or waitlisted due to the fact that I won't be finished with my degree, and my cumulative gpa is pretty rough. Hoping to have a 4.0 in last 60 and a 4.0 in Science with a pre-reqs completed to give myself a shot.

Would love to find others on this same journey!

Probably only 2 more weeks to go! I know they notify by email! I'm just ready to know one way or another so I can make plans!

Do y'all have back up plans if you don't get accepted? Different schools or waiting another year to apply? This is my second time applying to OU, so if I don't get in this time I'll take a different route

I have applied to ABSN programs as well as a few MSN entry programs. I am currently accepted at Creighton's Phoenix campus, wait-listed at Johns Hopkins, and waiting to hear back from a few others such as University of Florida and Vanderbilt. I'm also applying to a few schools here in Texas as I live in Dallas but only a few are accelerated which doesn't thrill me.

I wish I had a backup plan, Haley! Lol! I'd considered a few fast track ADN programs, including one at OCCC, but they didn't feel worth it to me. I know I'll want to get my Master's eventually, so I'd like to stay in state to keep costs down. (That and my husband will be paying the bills when I'm in school so it'd be hard to move.)

I think I'm going to do OCCC if i don't get in. It's only an ADN to start but I could start working March 2019 and then I'd just instantly go into OU's ADN to BSN. In total it would be like 19 months total actual school. Seems like my best bet if OU doesn't work out again

My backups are OSU-IT, RSU, and Connors which all are ADN's and August start dates... I just want to get started, so I'll only apply to OU again if for some reason I don't get accepted anywhere by next fall.

Wow it sounds like you're going to be set. I would love to up and move for a quick ABSN program but my husband is about to start a new job here and we have kids so we're pretty much planted in Tulsa. My only options besides OU are ADN programs or waiting until Aug 2019 to start Roger's State's new BSN program but that doesn't seem worth it to me to wait.

What about OU's traditional BSN program? It starts in August and you can use the same application that you used for the ABSN.

My overall GPA is much worse than my last 60 so I don't think I'll be competitive enough. Ive heard its actually harder to get in to because so many are able to apply.

Hi everyone! I've applied to the ABSN 2018 program at Tulsa and OKC. I graduated from SWOSU with a Biology degree and worked at Integris SWMC for about 4 months, and before that have 3-4 years of experience volunteering in a free medical clinic in Weatherford. I finished with a GPA of 3.3 and I honestly have no idea about my last 60 hours or my science GPA (I know that I should know both of those things lol). I've also taken the GRE, which I know isn't required, but I did well on it so I put it on my application.

Based on that information, does anyone have any idea what kind of chance I have of getting into the program? I went to the advisement session OU has on the first Friday of every month, and it was helpful but only to some extent.

Any insight is appreciated, thanks!

Hello from a fellow SWOSU student! I'm finishing up a few science prereqs there now. From what I understand, the admissions committee does not take into account prior work experience. They strictly base their decision on science GPA, last 60 GPA, and whether you have a completed degree. I've been told that the applicant pool the last few years has been very competitive, so it's possible your 3.3 GPA will be a hurdle. On the bright side you have all of your prereqs complete which can only help. I still have two outstanding so I'm worried I'll get waitlisted. Wish you the best of luck!
