Hi all,
I'm brand new to this forum. Who else has applied to SSU's pre-licensure BSN program? The anticipation is killing me! Does anyone know whether the overall G.P.A minimum of 3.0 applies to the last 60 units of college work only? I definitely meet that, but had a mediocre grades stint back in the 1990s, when I got my BA. (I'm an older student at 40.)
Good luck to everyone applying to nursing schools right now. I was accepted to Dominican University, but getting into their nursing program is separate, and one must stay enrolled to eventually get in.
Thanks again!
Just curious and a little off topic, but what are everyone's plans for CNA training if accepted to SSU?[/quote']I took mine in June through the Red Cross. Many people in my class had been accepted and were taking it then. Probably half my class was SSU nursing students starting fall 2013, or wait listed.
Oh that's awesome! I'm doing my CNA training through the Red Cross as well. How many students were in your CNA class? And how did you like it? I think I'm going to go through with the training whether I get accepted or not. I love the idea of having basic nursing skills down prior to beginning any nursing program.

I would say there was probably 14 maybe. And then we split up for clinicals so about 7 at the facility. I thought it was a good amount of time, not too long but, not too short. I think the class material was dry because we have already taken pre reqs that were in so much more detail. The material for me was a bit boring because I had already learned most of it and it was more major concepts. But, definitely a necessary aspect because everyone is at different levels. I would highly recommend doing it anyway. For me SSU was the only school I applied to that required it but, I am happy I did it even if I don't go there or don't get in. I know for me I will be a bit more confident when starting clinicals because I have already gotten past those initial worries and unknowns. And I am sure that is probably how most people will feel after taking the course.
The only downer is the cost of doing the CNA training through the Red Cross. The JC has a CNA course over the summer as well but it ends the week before SSU begins school and I would want some sort of a break to calm my nerves before jumping into nursing school! Thank you for the insight on the program. It seems like a great program and I'm excited for this summer!

Totally understand the price along with all the other stuff that will come with starting nursing school. I don't know anyone who has taken it at the jc but, I am sure it's a great program like all the rest there. The length was my issue, we has a pre-planned vacation so I couldn't take a longer class. And definitely need that mental, emotional, and physical break before starting nursing school. Of course, no problem! Love to help any way I can, even if it isn't much. I really enjoyed it, clinicals were tiring but, very rewarding and my favorite part of the class.

Thank you! Yes it is nice to know I will be in a nursing program in the fall. Hopefully we all get that sense of relief when SSU sends out decisions. I know I will be much more excited getting their letter or Chico's in the coming weeks. Just a different sense of hope and excitement compared to mendos letter. Great way of looking at the waiting! One week down.
Tall4, thank you for checking in and letting us know what you heard. I am thinking mid-April, as well to be the best estimate.
