Other SSU pre-licensure BSN applicants?

Published

Hi all,

I'm brand new to this forum. Who else has applied to SSU's pre-licensure BSN program? The anticipation is killing me! ;) Does anyone know whether the overall G.P.A minimum of 3.0 applies to the last 60 units of college work only? I definitely meet that, but had a mediocre grades stint back in the 1990s, when I got my BA. (I'm an older student at 40.)

Good luck to everyone applying to nursing schools right now. I was accepted to Dominican University, but getting into their nursing program is separate, and one must stay enrolled to eventually get in.

Thanks again!

Hi! I also applied to SSU for the pre-licensure program. I applied to three other schools, but SSU is my first pick (and also the one I hear back from the soonest!) I have a 3.94 Overall and a 4.0 in the sciences. 96 on the teas. (Crossing my fingers for my essays)

RunBabyRun,

That's so awesome that you are about to graduate from SSU!! And congrats on the job offer! What days and times do your clinicals range from, and what hospitals have you had clinicals at?

I'm seriously dying of anticipation waiting to hear back. Good luck to everyone who applied! :)

Specializes in L&D, infusion, urology.

Nice! I imagine as long as your essays were good, you're golden!

I'm so excited to graduate! We just took our ATI comprehensive predictor exam tonight, and I had a 96% probability of passing the NCLEX the first time- here's hoping! (they require us to have a 91% chance before graduation)

Our clinicals are Thursdays and Fridays on day shift except for the final semester, when they're all over the place. Most clinicals are at Sutter, Memorial and Kaiser (mine have been at Sutter), except for peds and psych, which, again, are all over, and can be any shift (though will still be Thursdays and Fridays). The clinical instructors are fantastic (I have had Nancy at Sutter- LOVE her!).

Good luck on hearing back!! I can't wait to hear about who gets in!

Thanks for the info RunBabyRun! Gives us a good insight about the program and more details. Thank you for taking the time to share with us. Congrats on graduation, your predictor exam, and job opportunity. That's awesome!

RunBabyRun, that's so exciting about the ATI exam! You'll do amazing on the NCLEX. SSU has a very high NCLEX pass rate. And thank you for sharing the info! I'm glad the clinicals are for the most part local. I did volunteer work at Sutter, and I had my daughter there as well. It's a great hospital and I LOVE all the nurses!

Does anyone know how many pre-licensure applicants SSU had this year or when they will send notifications? They said they make admission decisions in April. But that could mean April 1st or April 30th. Hopefully any day now!

Tall4- you sound like a competitive applicant. Crossing my fingers for you!

I called the office, they said 150 applicants this year, and decisions will be around mid-April. Only a few more weeks!

Hi meib92,

That's a plus that there were 150 applicants this year! I think it's usually 200ish, according to the SSU site. I also noted on the allnurses SSU posts from last year that people started getting notified around April 8. I'm so impatient!

Your stats are extremely good, so I'm betting you will get it. If I get in as well, we will know each other before we know each other, lol. :)

Good luck to all! I'm just trying to focus on stats class, volunteering, yoga class, housework, the hubs, etc. until we find out. I am so distracted. ;)

Oh, the waiting! ;) I probably won't get in, but not knowing either way is the worst. I really want this! Ugh!

The waiting is killing me. I got an acceptance letter from a jc I applied to on Monday, and it's making me that much more anxious to get more decisions.

Hey caligirl7!

Congrats on getting acceptance from one of your schools. :) That is great news! Although we hear back soon from SSU, SRJC doesn't notify until June. That means if I don't get into SSU, I'll have to pay my Dominican deposit no matter what.

I'll hope the best for us both, and for the other fellow applicants. I really, really want in at SSU, although it's so competitive that I probably won't get in. Ughhh!! Stay positive. :)

Hi Tall4,

Thank you, it is my last choice of school but it's an option. Yes srjc is super late in notifying, pretty sure the latest. Which really is horrible for people like you, who will have to let other schools know well before June. Good luck! Hope you get in to SSU and don't have to worry about Dominican. Fingers crossed! I am hoping it's sooner than later because now it's on the top of my mind constantly. I did pretty good about "forgetting" about them for awhile. But now that it is that month of notifications and getting the Mendocino letter I am thinking about it non stop. At least I know I am not alone in it consuming my thoughts.

Congratulations caligirl7! I'm so happy for you. Now you have peace of mind that you're for sure in a nursing program in the fall. Woo hoo!!!

Time goes by so much slower when you're waiting. The good news is we're already past week one of April:up:

Hey all,

I emailed a nice lady with the SSU nursing office and she said they're still reviewing applications. I think your earlier estimate of us hearing back by mid-April is right. It seems so far away!!!

Good luck to everyone; I'm super nervous and excited. :)
