I am considering moving back to Ohio; is anyone familiar with OSU Medical Center? Seems to have good benefits, pay, ect..... Any ideas??

I've never been there (live in NW Ohio), but I was just looking at their site. It looks like they have a lot of opportunities and the pay and benefits look good for RN positions, but I could'nt find any listings for LPN's. I'd also be interested if anyone else has any info about the medical center.

OSU does not employ LPNs to my knowledge.

I'm an RN. I am just wondering the pros and cons of OSU med center? I was born and raised in Ohio, but, more central. Looking to move back and really would like a Level I teaching. Seems like a nice area as well??

I've only heard good things about it in general. Downside, I'm pretty sure you have to pay about $400 for a parking pass per year.

I worked at OSUMC the last 4 yrs, and I have only seen 1 LPN working on the Post-trauma med-surg floor (10 East Rhodes). This person was going to school at the time to get her RN.

I am an RN, so thats fine---is OSUMC a good place to work? Is the pay comparable to the area? What area do you work? I am not familiar with any other hospitals in the area, are you?

Being a state hospital, OSUMC has one of the best pay rates and benefits for nurses in the state. They belong to a union and pay dues. The hospital is nice and they are constantly building up the property. They recently added the Ross Heart Hospital, and are listed among America's Best hospitals every year (Consumer Reports magazine maybe...) Some med-surg units are crappy, under-staffed, or have poor management, but you'll probably find that everywhere. Parking is ridiculous. I used to pay 300+ for a staff B lot pass. Game days are horrible for trying to park, and yes, you can drive around for a good 40 minutes or so trying to find a place to park depending on time of day you work, etc.

Thanks for the info! I will start looking into it in about January, since we cant head out until school is out for my daughter.

OSU does employ some LPNs. I work with some over at Dodd Hall which is our inpatient rehab hospital. Also, I think some of the outpatient clinics hire some as well. Parking is definitely an issue. About $26 a month for a staff pass, and parking is OK as long as you are working early or late. Midday parking can be a pain to find. Union dues are steep ( I think), but then I have never been in a union before. Pay rates are determined by the union contract. Pay is pretty close I think among all the local hospitals. Columbus in general does not have the great nursing shortage to the extent seen in other areas. Every one I graduated with did get a nursing job, but the local hospitals arent fighting for nurses anymore. There are many new grads in our area. I would say that it is a great place to work and offers many benefits. I would apply on line and interview and see what they have to offer.

I would suggest that you also consider Grant in Columbus as well. They are also a level I trauma center. They are part of Ohio Health. While you do have to shuttle from a remote parking lot about 5 blocks away, there is no charge for parking.

Also,

I work for Riverside and i LOVE it! It is also a part of OhioHealth! I really think that when it comes to nursing, it is good to ask around and if you know the exact field you are interested in, that can REALLY change your opinion or responses!
