  1. How is the management of high PA pressures (ex: Pulmonary HTN or CHF) with Nitro, Nipride, and Primacor different? Nitro will dilate, create venous pulling, and decrease preload, decreasing the PA pressures. Why use Primacor if there EF is good vs. Nitro, etc? Thanks
  2. This is a good hospital for experience. They are having issues right now with their budget, like many in the area. They will not give nurses a raise this year, are cutting vacation accrual by 8 hours, small changes made to the prescription coverage, and it's possible that may do something with the match for retirement contributions. I like working there with the people. They have been in the unit a lot longer than many hospitals can claim to keep their employees, and my coworkers are very intelligent.
  3. yes, iowacconline includes the labs. its a program you download online, only cost me ~30. i'm enrolled to take inorganic this summer. starts in may.
  4. I'm taking the Chem 151 and 152 through iowacconline. i've never taken organic/biochem. what did you do with pictures on a cd? what kind of labs were they?
  5. what are your reasons for crna vs. mda? just curious. i'd like the extra knowledge you gain in med school, but i definitely don't want to do 80 hours a week through all different rotations in areas that i know i don't want any part of. i chose nursing over med-school while i was completing my pre-med courses because i realized all the opportunities available to nurses, and a more involved approach to patient care.
  6. ok. thanks. how did you do your labs? was it through that chemlab program that you download from online? i looked through some of the labs, and a few don't really make sense with the instructions given on the procedure.
  7. Which WSU is this? Do you mean you took WSU's online chem, or through somewhere else?
  8. Miss Mab, I'd just like to say I enjoyed your writing style. It was entertaining, yet very effective. Great work!
  9. I bet this was a test to analyze whether the person was trembling and evidently nervous, or if they calmly could handle the task without appearing to be stressed out.
  10. The key is assessing your patients early, quickly and efficiently & charting the asess.; priortizing; getting your meds passed early (1/2hr) or on schedule to stay atop of things; and responding to problems, phone calls, pt/family questions/teaching. Good luck!
  11. a No-No! Only chart what you have actually assessed. Plus, it seems like you are making more work for yourself. You can't actually chart a presumed assessment. tsk tsk
  12. Hey, I work in the ICU and have 2 pts usually, but we give meds a lot more often, check on our patients continuously and respond as needed continuously. My suggestion to you is to get a game plan. You have 5 patients? Do you do all your assmessments first, then give out meds? How often does it seem that you have to give out meds, and how many (to one patient)? Like one patient-meds at 8, 12, 6 or what? So, this is what i do: Get my assignment, go look at each patient quickly (glance in room-make sure abc's are good), then do assessment quickly but thoroughly of each, document assess. and the review meds. we pass meds usu. at 10, 12, 6 etc. some more often then just punch out the meds quickly, and continue on with other needs
  13. hi, i saw your post on allnurses about the chem151-152 with dr. klepper at iowacconline. do you mind sharing how this course was for you? i know it was a while ago that you took it, but i am actually trying to repeat my chemistry classes to apply for grad school for nursing. (i took chem classes years ago, and only got c's in them.) also, if they will let me i'm going to try to take 151 (inorganic) and 152 (organic) at the same time this summer, so that i can finish them in time for the application to grad school in october. are the classes extrememely difficult to the point that they shouldn't be taken simultaneously? thanks
