Hello all! I hope to start this thread as the official Q&A for the applicants of the Ohio State Graduate Entry Masters of Nursing/Nurse Practitioner Program Summer 2018 enrollment! I am in the works of applying, getting my last letter of rec together and studying for the GRE. I'm so excited!! How about you??
I checked today, just in case. There's still no information other than "pending".
As to the person who claimed the possibility of someone already being admitted: I have a friend who is in the class that started last year. She applied for Clinical Nurse Leader, and I do believe that they had something like 20 openings, but only like 6 people applied for that specialty (ballpark...I don't remember the exact numbers she told me). So, I'm sure it is possible for some specialties to know if they have less applicants than spots...although, they may not "officially release that information until the college sends out formal acceptance offers. Since I applied to FNP, I probably won't know until last minute. *Crossing Fingers*
Out of curiosity, what did your applications look like? Are you guys seniors or have you been working in the field?
I'm in my mid-30's. I'm married with kids. I've worked in a lot of different fields from business to military contracting to health care. I have a BA in Classics with a 3.778 GPA. I have 7 years experience in EMS, the last 5 as a Paramedic. I'm a mid-level manager in EMS. I have 3 years experience as a Lieutenant in search and rescue. I spent a few years in Central American doing volunteer work. My letters were all pretty good: 1 from a professor who was my thesis advisor, 1 from the head of OSU's Emergency Department (who I did research with for a year), 1 from my EMS chief.
I felt that my application and resume were pretty strong, but now I am doubting how strong my personal statement was. I have all of the pre-reqs done with A's, but I have 2 unfinished: Pharmacology (finishing at OSU this week...B+ or A-) and Anatomy in the Spring. I think those things could sink my chances. They seem like they care pretty strongly that the prereqs be completed. From talking to a few people who got in last year, the personal statement seems like it might be worth more than 25%...it might be like 75% of why people get accepted.

Yes, the timeline they gave us late December and last year's did hear back on the 20th, so I would hope we get ours earlier since we interviewed earlier!! Just a couple more weeks :)
